If it is the Featherweight Classic with CRF, that would win hands down. They are not only prettier, but they are inherently more accurate....and remember, life's too short to shoot an ugly gun!
Antelope are not hard to kill. Anything from 243 Win /6mm Rem. through any of the 1/4 bores 6.5 or 279. Anything much over that is a waste. Flat and fast is more important than hitting hard. My personal favorite is a 6mm Rem. Sako and a Weatherby 257 WM.
Didn't Roy Weatherby try to prove the round and the rifle by shooting a Cape Buffalo with one and killing it with one shot to the chest? Seems there was this story....
...and if you are going to save your brass, why resell it? Reload it and shoot more..
I have three ea. Nikon 4.5-14 X 40 Side Focus scopes with Mil Dot reticles. Two are new and one is used. I'm asking $290 ea. for the new ones and $270 for the used one. Also have a Nikon 6-18 X 40 Side Focus with Nikoplex reticle new for $300.
A Bausch and Lomb Elite 3000 3-9X40 Used for...
Some of that looks like some tests we ran several years ago on ceramic armor. Different projectiles from different weapons.. Interesting to watch the reactions of the different shapes.
Doc, I don't know what unit you are hunting, but if you decide to take a long shot (350yds+) you will be better served by the 180 or the 200 then you will by the 165....and I know a lot of places in Arizona where 400 yards shots are not uncommon.
The Norma Vulkan has worked well for friends and customers. Accuracy in mid range velocities is excellent and it hits like a ton of old Volkswagons.. It's been used successfully on Moose, Elk and Griz and once on an unfortunate prairrie dog.
There are a couple of powders that will work for both. IMR 4350 and IMR 4831 will both work and will Hodgdon H4350 and H4831. There are powders that will work better for each load, but that's another story. If you haven't already chosen bullets, I load both calibers and have had excellent...
Will it kill an elk? Obviously it will. Will it do it quickly and humanely? Only under perfect conditions and likely with a head shot. Do we normally get perfect conditions while elk hunting? No.. Draw your own conclusions based on your personal hunting ethics.
I would seriously suggest that you run a ballistics table on the various BC's of the bullets and velocities you are discussing. Check them for 100 yards and again at 400 yards. I believe you will discover that the difference in trajectory is minimal compared to the difference in retained...
I believe that Arizona has or has had as many as four super tags in one year. One for raffle, two for auction.. one for AZ Elk Society and one for RMEF Phoenix Chapter, and a fourth one that was donated to the RMEF Convention. The RMEF tags may have been only one tag advertised in multiple places.
THe theory of random encounter plays here. If two objects are moving in the same vicintiy, they are less likely to intercept each other than if one object is stationary and one moving. Find a place and park it. Glass everywhere you can think of, then glass some more. Start by watching the...
NYH, the red book shows excellent accuracy and velocity with 44.5 grains of W748 and Nosler 140 gr. E Tips/Accubond bullets and CCI primers in RP cases.
If you're having issues finding Nosler bullets, try Gunbot.net. You can usually find whatever you are looking for on there.
