I'll be driving from Texas to hunt elk in NM this October. The plan is to load my ice chests up with dry ice and leave them at the trail head locked in the outfitters horse trailers. But something that I'm having a hard time...
I'm a dedicated handgun hunter. The 158 JSP is a fine choice in .357. My personal opinion is to load it as hot and safe as you can and limit yourself to deer size animals out to about 75 yards max.

Magnum Research BFR handgun in .460 S&W with 7.5" barrel. Bullet is a hand-loaded Swift Aframe 300 grain, pushed by a max load of H110. About 2000 fps at the muzzle, producing something like 2600 foot-pounds of energy.
