Congrats!! That’s a fun hunt for sure.
It’s going to sound cliche but literally throw a dart at the map of 34 and you can find elk. If you can get there a few days early you could easily find some bulls for opening day.
I add some extra water and 5 minutes extra time.
I also put 1/2 the amount of water it calls for into the pouch 15-20 minutes before I plan to boil the water. It helps a lot IMO. I usually do this once I’m back to camp and unpacking/relaxing.
As long as your front sling stud doesn’t get caught/contact anything during recoil shooting off a pack can be very solid.
I prefer a bipod as it allows me to get setup on uneven ground much easier than over a pack.
There are many ways people define accuracy and precision when referring to rifles. In a nutshell to me a rifle is only as accurate as the shooter. Give a proficient shooter a rifle shooting 1 MOA and a novice shooter a rifle shooting 1/2MOA and see which one can make consistent shots at game or...
Definitely send it to p_ham and have him work his magic.
The Ruger does have a claw extractor but like mention it’s a flat breech design and very simple to rebarrel.
I would recommend you have him rework the trigger and bed the rifle also. The angled recoil lug design of the Ruger can really...
I have a 8 twist rock creek on my 243 and love it. 105VLD and 7828 shoot lights out. As does the 88gr hammer hunters.
Certainly turns the ol 243 into a killing machine!
I’m betting you will get plenty of firings from the brass.
When I start with a new barrel my process is load a modified ladder/OCW test and find the node. Once I find the node I will load up 40-50 rounds and start shooting steel and verify drops.
Once the barrel has settled I will fine tune...
Most barrels will settle/speed up at around 120-200 rounds.
I would also be upset with only 3 firings on ADG brass. 7-8 firings I would be ok with.
Do you anneal your brass regularly.
Greenhorn- how many rounds down the barrel? Did the group size change at all or POI change?
The primer looks good and the ejector mark is very faint IMO.
Is that new brass or once fired?
I don’t really worry about ejector marks especially if the load shoots great. Brass is cheap if you get a few firings from them.
