    Sleeping out under the stars…

I don't know the "Rule of Threes" except for those used when writing something interesting (without googling). But I did look it up, and of course have known all three of those simplistic axioms since I was a tot. I'm guessing falling off of things is the number one killer. But...I have lived...

    Sleeping out under the stars…

Bro, always bring your bag or a quilt too. Borahs are great (mine's 5 oz), but a bag or quilt can save your life. :)

What was your first big game rifle, and do you still have it?

Bought new in 1984. Yes, big game, doves, snipe, varmints, defense. We were poor. Still looks new. :-)

When It's Time To Say Goodbye.

I'm thankful for every dog that broke my heart. Glad you had this one. And sorry for your loss.

    Sleeping out under the stars…

My Bro and I slept outside on the ground every night for about half a year while my dad hand built our cabin in NorCal. If it was wet, we slept under the camper shell (which was sitting on the ground). If dry, under the sky. No sleeping pads, just blankets, quilts, and sleeping bags. It was...

Non-Game Species Encountered in the Field

As a kid I found a dark black momma porcupine with a tiny white baby clinging to her. I've read white porcupines are very rare. Sitting on a corn feeder with my nephew, we watched a bobcat stalk up slowly underneath, wait for a bird to land on the spreader, then jump straight up trying to catch...

    Sleeping out under the stars…

Below 50 degrees, there will be no mosquitoes. Put down a ground cloth. As long as it's not on top of an anthill the odds of any issues are laughingly small. What might still happen? If a mist roles in you'll wake up with some moisture/frost on your gear.

    7mm recoil help

Hunting? Use a Caldwell Recoil Shield during zero confirmation or range practice. One or two shots on the hunt, you won't feel a thing.

    Shoulder strap position?

I can see a little light through your strap, so, better. EXO Mountain Gear has excellent pack fitting vids on the Tube.

    Durston x mid 2 pro

Yes, when the Pro came out I took a good look. But for a 2 pound tent I decided I'm happy with the cost and versatility of the standard. I like to run just the inner, or just the outer, along with the full tent. There is no bad X-Mid, just trade offs and personal preference. (y):D

What is your single top hunting season goal this year? I expect updates damn it.

I want to get my paramedic brother in law a whitetail. Will update, hopefully, by the end of the week.

    Durston x mid 2 pro

Original is wider (52"), enough for two 25" pads. Pro is 48". Important to you?

    Favorite Seasonings

Depends on the meal. Venison stew? A touch of ginger and mustard. Bay leaves.

    Wife not into "game" meat

Simple backstrap: Start sliced onions in butter, low temp. After mostly done, add more butter and 1/4" thick sliced tenderloin. Salt, pepper, garlic to taste. Pull as soon as blood turns brown. Makes it's own gravy. Tender. Excellent on tortillas or with rice.

    First hand Covid symptoms

And...turns out my wife had it too. She didn't test positive until I was out of town. She didn't tell me while I was gone, because I was out on a four-day solo mountain bike and dirt bike adventure, which was awesome. I had no symptoms while on my trip, or she would have told me. I had a few...
