I suppose I should report on my goal.....
3rd season, northern CO. It was warm, and dry, except for one day.
Buddy killed a good bull on opening morning. I was right next to him. The bull was broken off on one side, but he would have gone around 320 if not broken off.
I had one...
I rented one with a 115mm objective for my 3rd season hunt, as we had some glassing spots that we didn't have to carry it very far to. It was a lot fun to watch elk at 2-3 miles with.
As it should be.
This can be a bit of a touchy subject. As evidenced in this thread, it doesn't take long for pictures and stories to show up in what started as a discussion of age. And no surprise there, we all love our kids and view them in a positive light, and I'm guilty as well. I don't...
This is true, but......
Don't parents usually overestimate their children's abilities a bit? I mean, I have 4 kids too, all well above average, of course.......
My biases are well established here, but....
I had a NF SHV on a pic rail( loctite, torqued, witness marked) take a fairly hard fall on some rocks, and then go through a vehicle rollover laying uncased in the back of a 4runner. We checked zero after, still right where it was supposed to be...
Growing up in western KS you couldn't fill a big game tag until 12, if I remember correctly. I went with my dad before that age, but as a spectator.
In my opinion, I wasn't disadvantaged in any way. I think some of the really young hunters are more a way of parents gratifying their own egos...
Me too. The first thing I asked my buddy was if he was OK, and it was a huge relief to find out he was.
Neither of us were wearing seatbelts. I wear mine fairly religiously, but I guess it was a combination of early morning and just getting a bit lazy. There's a lesson there. I came into that...
If we are talking about major goof-ups.......
This was last Friday. 4:00 or so in the morning, 43 degrees, but that spot is shaded all day, and there was a 200 yd stretch of icy road. Trooper said it was the only icy spot he saw on his way up, but you could have fallen on your rear right next...
It's a joint effort for sure.
It's not a light thing to put yourself potentially at odds with the legal system, though, especially one as "friendly" as the local one that the criminal proceedings happened in, and 1000 miles away from home.
Lest NRs totally get flushed, let's not forget that some Missouri boys may have helped a lot of residents land access opportunities, pending appeals.....
It's an interesting argument. I personally am happy to continue living in the Midwest, and making a trip every other year to hunt elk currently. If I lost the opportunity to do so, there is no question that the idea of moving west would be rolling around in my mind. I don't think I'm alone in this.
