I have a revolution. It is comfortable, light, and dependable. I don't worry about breaking it when I carry a heavy load, which is critical. There are a couple good reviews over at Rokslide.
You could camp along the Ruby, Big Hole, or Beaverhead Rivers. I'd be careful about trying to both fish and hunt before you get an elk. While it sounds nice, if you're serious about killing an elk, it'll likely require all of your focus.
I see that the HiLine is still plenty cold, but the rest of the state appears to have warmed up and it is expected to remain that way for a while. Many areas of the state are hitting the 40s during the day. This might be just the break that the deer need.
Is the snow opening up in Regions 4 and...
Roads on public land are not always open to public vehicle travel. BLM maps are good for land ownership, but they don't generally show what is open and what is closed. IF the local BLM has conducted a travel management plan, you should be able to get a copy of that plan with some digging on the...
Seems to me that there is pretty good whitetail hunting with a general tag in western Montana. I think a person can find a 140 class whitetail with an A license if they put in the time. Big mule deer are a lot harder to come by in this part of the state.
I recommend narrowing the search down to a couple units and then calling the local biologists to pick their brains. Some units are more forested than others, some have big migrations, and some have private land issues. Those factors will affect the hunting in each.
If you are fit, I recommend...
The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership put together a response to the Meateater podcast with Congressman Rob Bishop. You can read it here: http://themeateater.com/2018/theodore-roosevelt-conservation-partnership-responds-to-steven-rinellas-interview-of-congressman-rob-bishop/
That's probably right, but there are also zero known cases of CWD crossing the species barrier into humans. While likely to happen at some point, the risk is low. I think if a person's deer comes back negative, they shouldn't worry about it.
The draw odds seem precise and the interactive website is fun, but I think they've tried to tackle too much too fast by providing breakdowns on every unit in the West.

I own two Kimber rifles. Unless you handload I'd purchase one in a commonly produced cartridge. The light barrels can be finicky and there is a chance you'll need to search for a load that your gun likes. They are nice to carry in the field.
Keep in mind that many folks commenting on this post are from Montana. Because of places like the Missouri Breaks, we have a skewed perspective about what makes a big sheep. I'd adjust my expectations if I had a tag in other places, and that's a nice ram.
