I just hope that the bullet companies keep creating more non-lead options so they shoot accurately in more guns. Copper bullets are generally longer, which comes with consequences. I was a big fan of the heavy core Barnes MRX while it lasted.
I'll offer my support for PLWA. We are pretty lucky to have them in Montana. Lots of other groups work on access, but nobody else is keeping access to (which is different than through) public lands open by playing the legal game. In fact, I can't think of another group in the country that does...
Many great groups listed in this thread. As someone who has worked in the sporting community for a while, I recommend giving at both the local and national level. National groups can take on the big issues and they have reach and leverage that local groups cannot match. Local groups are going to...
I don't doubt that this has a major effect, but why do some places consistently produce big deer while others do not? I can't imagine that some places produce plump does every year while does in other areas are always famished.
I think food availability and the nutrition of that food plays a big role in antler size.
The farther south you go the earlier the greenup. Deer in places like Utah and Arizona are pushing up new antlers long before deer in Montana. Plus, deer in Montana often come out of winter in poorer body...
I recommend 8.5x42 binos on your chest harness and 15 power binos on a tripod. 12s would shake way too much in the hand and need to be mounted to a tripod in my opinion.
I know that the Muley Fanatic Foundation is working with lawmakers and outfitters on legislation to ban this practice in Wyoming...

I think the presence of CWD is going to make it harder to convince FWP that less hunting pressure is what's needed for mule deer, given that older bucks are more likely to carry the disease. If anything, we might see a push in the other direction.
I would be comfortable if the muley season stopped at the end of the third weekend. We'd still get to hunt the early part of the rut, and it'd give the deer a break. Such a change would need to occur across a vast region in order to have an effect. Otherwise pressure would just concentrate.
It should be noted that 93 percent of the current harvest in HD 103 is focused on whitetails. Making that particular HD a mule deer permit area shouldn't have a significant effect on overall opportunity. It might take some of the application pressure off of the Region 2 trophy zones, as region 1...
It should also be noted that the BLM is required to identify priority lands for acquisition and lands suitable for disposal through local land use plans. Because many of the BLM land use plans are 20-30 years old, their acquisition and disposal lists are grossly outdated. Some lands that were...
The BLM has the authority to dispose of small and isolated tracts of land that are difficult and uneconomical to manage. Assuming that those lands are publicly inaccessible and that they are too small and isolated to ever make publicly accessible, targeted land disposals can make sense. For...
