I have thought about that one also. Where I’m at in Illinois outfitters are looked at as a problem. Where one parcel of land that a family could hunt three people lost access and now the outfitters will send one person on that whole property.
In my area it was affected. For the farmers it was either planted or not. From what I heard in upper WI it has been wet most of the year so lots of standing crops.
I took two city friends out on their first ever deer hunt. I ran by old man Teds house to reconfirm hunting access and let him know I had two friends with me. He said yeah its ok if you go hunting out back, but I need a favor to be done. I have an old sick horse that I can’t afford to have him...
I may be superstitious but my batteries die after a month and a half of being out in the woods. At about that time frame I look for rain in the forecast, I will do a chip swap and change batteries the day before a rain so my scent will wash away. The deer don't seem to skip a beat for me.

I have heard locals from all three states say it has been the worst deer season they have been apart of. I did a little digging and sounds like its been a down year in many Midwest states. I guess I have had a good year compared to others.

This thread reminds me of a famous self defense guy, I forget his name.
He had a class of housewives that wanted to learn how to defend themselves in a bad situation. In summary, he told them they had to use their instincts and use anything as a weapon to survive. He then asked what they would...
I was lucky enough to run into an old local in teds bar and grill this summer in Bozeman. I asked him the same question. He said 15 years ago it might have been. He also said a friend and him used to take nice bulls from the bridgers back in the day.
Just this past weekend I was hunting in county forest area. Lots of roads had very large puddles you could tell people drove through. Some that must have been really bad they dumped gravel in them. So I assumed all the roads were good... nope
I processed my deer early last week, and went in order of the deer I killed. But the goofy thing I discovered was my first archery buck I had an arrow pass through both shoulder blades. My last deer was a doe taking during the IL shotgun season. I had gut shot it and found the next day still...
If you find your arrow spray peroxide on it and if it fizzles it’s likely a gut shot... that’s was my first arrow I let go this year...and I had to track with a bottle of peroxide for 100yds until blood showed up. Never recovered and never once enjoyed that experience.
I harvested my first archery deer this past Saturday, a small basket rack 6 point on private land. I got another buck tag and went out last night on public land and did ground hunting into the wind. Had a few failed stalks on does and the closest I got was 40 yards. Half hour before legal...

Another scenario for you guys... Back country black power, do you tape the end of your barrel? or leave it open due to moisture in the air? I was thinking taping your barrel would keep the moisture in and then if you stay in the back country overnight your temp swing would cause condensation on...
