I know a lot more people who were completely skunked (didn't even get into elk) hunting 76 than were skunked hunting 61. I'd hold out for 61. Or put in for the Bosque archery tag; that hunt has always intrigued me.
Toprut lists all the odds for every late rifle tag. Just input your point total and it'll tell you your chance to draw. Looks like the odds are still 2017 odds, though.

There's some units that you'd be guaranteed to draw with 6ish points but none of...
I'll echo the above. If you're even moderately as interested in muleys as you are in elk then a mule deer hunt could be the way to go. OTC elk is super difficult whereas even second choice deer tags can be solid tags to have.
Having grown up in Grand Junction and hunted unit 40 a lot I would not recommend unit 40 to any public land hunters that aren't local. Too much private and too difficult to attempt to figure out in a handful of days. You could always get lucky but 40 can be a frustrating and tough hunt on...
The responses so far pretty well sum up opinions on the matter. You need to decide what's most important to you: saving a pound or three, or being able to see every minor detail for a couple miles plus. If money weren't an object I would have a Swaro 95 and a Kowa 55, and use them for whatever...
CO fourth season on a leftover tag in a unit that was new to me. Hunting solo, I was fortunate enough that this bull fed out across the canyon from me at 475 yards on Thursday just before the sun went down. I field processed him and packed out all my gear and a rear quarter on Friday, and...
I have owned Kuiu, Marsupial, and Outdoor Vision harnesses, and have spent some time messing around with Sitka (brother's) and AGC (buddy's). The Outdoor Vision harness is my favorite of the bunch, personally. I liked the Kuiu and Marsupial as well but I felt the OV harness was the best...
3rd season Colorado muley. First time hunting this unit and on a second choice tag. Also my wife’s first hunt. She was a perfect spotter before and during the shot, giving me ranges and the position of the deer. Pretty great experience we got to share! Unfortunately we did not fill her tag...

I use the Promaster XC525C and it's a very nice tripod, as are the Sliks. Pair them with a Benro S2 or some other lightish weight panhead and you should be good to go. S&S, goHunt, and CameralandNY are great places...
I have one; got it for a good deal. It's serviceable. For the weight, price point, and ability to resell, it's a solid option. If you're looking for a decent piece of glass with a lifetime warranty from a company that's going to likely stick around then there aren't a ton of other great...
There's a million and a half good choices. I grew up shooting a 30-06 that my dad had and haven't yet found a reason to switch. That being said if I grew up shooting a 308 or 300 win mag I would be saying the same thing. They're all good choices. I personally would choose a 7 rem mag, 30-06...
Your best bet to start off e-scouting would be to use the Colorado Hunting Atlas.
https://ndismaps.nrel.colostate.edu/index.html?app=HuntingAtlas
The atlas will show you all the lands for each unit and who the land belongs to. You'll find BLM, national forest, and state lands that are...
Eh? I had the 11-33x50 for a while then moved up to the 16-48x65. Sometimes I feel like the extra power is helpful, sometimes I don't. The thing is that if you're going to be backpacking it's often hard to justify the little extra power for the weight penalty. The 11-33x50 is 25 ounces...
My dad took my brother and I hunting very young. I was 5 and my brother was 7 when my dad shot his first archery bull elk in Colorado. Too bad we weren't too useful of packers at that age, and he ended up having to pack the whole thing by himself that day. This was before most people had cell...
I took my biggest bull on a first rifle hunt in Colorado, and they bugled til past noon that day. That isn't normal, though, and I wouldn't personally plan on using bugling as a tactic at that time of year.
You shouldn't need a quad for that hunt. Unit 40 is a fairly straightforward unit early. There's one section of NF up top where most of the deer and hunters are that time of year. Make sure you have onX; much of the private in 40 is not fenced off.
Apart from the deer you may be fortunate...
