It was hard for me to find a spot when I took the class, even as a local. The people who offer the field days are volunteers (at least that's what they told me) which is why more courses aren't offered.
I would say that's a good call. That 371 area and the group of units around it get hit pretty hard from people that live in Denver. If you have time to get further away from the front range I would do so.
I'm with everyone else. I don't personally think 40 archery is worth the points it takes a resident to draw, much less a nonresident. You might kill a monster but you'll more than likely have few encounters on public and come home frustrated. That being said you're kind of in no man's land...
I believe the new forum allows for a larger avatar picture file size that won't be so pixelated. I re-uploaded my avatar picture and it's showing up quite nicely.
Yep. The first year I applied in Montana I bought the preference point for $50. Then I didn't apply for a general tag the next year and that preference point went away. Unless you plan on hunting the general tag next year I wouldn't buy a preference point.
The older model Razor HD spotting scopes are much better glass than the new Viper HD spotting scopes. If those are your two choices I would jump on the Razor.
If you're a less experienced elk hunter, which it sounds like you are, I definitely would pick an area with plenty of elk. We all want to get away from people but if you're smart about it, you can use that pressure to your advantage. Good luck.
Unless you get very lucky it will take a while to draw a "dream hunt" in AZ. There's definitely some great opportunity out there but those late rifle hunts in mid-tier units are going to be tough to get a wall hanger on the ground for a majority of hunters. I guess it depends on what you...
A few times Big Fin has stated that, simply based on accessibility to public land, he would hunt archery in Montana and the later rifle seasons in Colorado. Something to consider. If I were hunting rifle season in Colorado for elk 2nd season would be my last choice, though.
Being a Junction boy, I've hunted both for a number of years. I would hunt 61 for elk hands down if on public. For a 5 day hunt I wouldn't want to be playing the boundary game on bulls in 40.
Regarding your comment on age and trespass fees: I actually think that's relevant to the...
Great choice. I'm a hunter, though, so I'm not sure how I recommended that from the get go since I apparently don't know poop from puddin' :D
As mentioned it's worth giving Doug from CameralandNY a call. He cuts hunters great deals on Kowa spotters all the time. I've bought from him and had...
I would not personally consider a Vortex spotter for sheep hunting. Vortex does make (or has in the past) some quality products but I don't love their spotters for super fine details like sheep hunting. Two options to consider in or close to your price range:
Kowa 553 (angled) or 554...
