Definitely chat with folks when you are out driving on roads, before and after the season opens. I learned a ton of info from a few folks that I met - and everyone is always helpful when it's a moose tag.
I would chat with some taxidermist's - especially those around the area - as they get...
When stalking through the woods, I like to keep my hunting knife in my teeth like a pirate. That way when I do slay the elusive beast I am ready for bleeding it out as soon as possible.
I was home working during the summer between my Freshman and Sophomore year in college. About once a week I'd stop by a local shop that sold guns (plus lots of other stuff) - but I had my eye on a Ruger Vaquero, .44 mag with a 5 1/2 in barrel. I was 19 - and knew I couldn't buy it till I was...
I got the book back in October and read it straight through. I've long been a fan of Kimber's 1911 guns, so I was excited to read it from that perspective.
The vast majority of the book is Busse's experience and stories as Kimber grew - and is a great read.
I think Busse has a valid point...
I was waiting for JR's wine list. I do like "good" wines and have been trying to educate myself - but more often than not I can't remember what "that good bottle" was when I go back into the wine shop. Case in point, during November I picked up a monthly wine subscription from our local shop...
signing into HT after a few day break and finding a 15 page thread that I make my way through during the day while stuck on bad conf calls only to be disappointed at the end.
It's a tough gig when you carve your teeth on Public land hunts (and write poorly about them), then transition to bought private land tags. Fred Bear would be proud?
Keep hammerin'
We set up 529's for the kids and try to max out our contributions each year. We also setup CD's for them at a local credit union, they usually have some promotions for kids - where if they leave the money in the CD until they are 18 it gives a better return rate. My grandparents did that for...
I did attend the Hamilton FWP meeting last week - and I'll post a few of my overall comments/thoughts regarding the public input and FWP involvement.
1) FWP staff is listening - but emphasized MANY times during the meeting that we NEED TO COMMENT ONLINE. I know that can be tough for some (and...
I have a JM Micro-groove .444 Marlin and a BLR in .308. They both shoot very well.
The BLR's can be tricky to load for. You should get a set of small-base dies - otherwise the rounds can be tough to cycle (mainly fully close the action). Mine was / is very particular on bullet's as well...
That was really cool - thanks for sharing. I've often thought that taking some basic course in climbing work would be extremely useful. This definitely puts it back on my list of things to - and I've got a couple friends who climb regularly.
Awesome work.
@Greenhorn - all three of those are seriously impressive.
I had the Moose tag in 2017 - it was a tag I never thought I would draw - and in a unit I didn't know much about. I hunted hard and found a decent Bull which I was very happy with. I found some great Elk spots that I'll be able to take...
Other folks can contribute to a 529 as well. We set them up for our kids and add some money in every year. But we also gave the info to grandparents, aunts / uncles - so they could contribute in lieu of gifts if they want to.
