Percentage of fat in ground meat

I'm in the 0% fat camp. I have tried a bunch of percentages and mixes - but just prefer it plain. I find it stores longer in the freezer with no fat added. I don't have issues making hamburgers - which is really the only time you need it to stick together. Most other recipes where it needs...

Hunt Talk Auction! **$4,705** Raised By Hunt Talk Members For "Wildlife Deserve Better!"

@Sytes Dang it - I was out of the computer / wifi for a bit and didn't follow the donation rules. Big apology - but it looks like @BackofBeyond covered and made it work. I'll PM Sytes as well.

    Moose heart roll

Awesome prep. I would have thought 1 hr @ 350 might be a bit much - but it looks perfect.

    Is .5 HP Grinder enough?

Great opinions through the thread already. I do currently have a 0.5 HP grinder and a kitchen aide attachment. It's on my list to upgrade to a larger grinder. I typically do 4-5 deer and a couple of elk per year. One year I did a moose, elk and buffalo. So it works OK, but I am usually...

How many hunting rifles do you have?

I refuse to take a measurement as I don't want to alter my future course.

    Schnees boots rebuild?

I've had my Schnee pack boots rebuilt twice. Seems to be about every 10 years when I wear out the soles. I got mine in 1998 - they are great to work with on these and it's well worth the price.

    Browning BLR Accuracy??

Deer and Antelope - out to 300 yards - the average is probably around 150. The farthest elk with that gun was 330 yards and the closest elk was maybe 10 feet.

    Browning BLR Accuracy??

I've had a BLR in .308 since I was 12 - and am now 48. I used to shoot 150 Nosler Partitions in it - and I was around 1.5 MOA. I've shot lots of deer, Elk and antelope with that load. The animals didn't know I wasn't shooting an MOA. I switched over to some 180 Nosler Partitions (Protected...

This has been bothering me for a while.

Odor is a little much when hunting

This has been bothering me for a while.

There is no better lunch on a hunt than a can of anchovies and saltine crackers. Smoked oysters will do fine as would herring. And a Caesar salad without fresh made anchovy dressing is not a Caesar salad.

    Weight Loss Drugs

I'm type 2 - diagnosed 4 years ago at 44. There is a strong genetic link for the type 2 in my family and I've always figured I would eventually have to deal with it. We (my doc and I) have gradually increased / added some medications over the last 4 years. I did start Victoza in December and...

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

I applaud the effort and I will be supporting this approach as much as I can over the next years / months. My current situation has me harvesting more whitetails (over the last 15-20 years) - but I grew up East of Billings and Mule Deer were definitely the focus. I'm constrained with the kids...

    The Devil's Lettuce

There are never any drugs or alcohol on river trips. Ask any of the old river rats. More than half the folks buying Simms right now are wearing their waders to the bar "after a hard day of stoke" - so maybe the marketing isn't poorly placed.

    Spice blends

We've used these a ton: Silk Road They used to have restaurant's in Missoula, but still do their Spice blends. I love using the Moroccan Harissa in pot roast (neck) and stews. They will be at some of the farmer markets around Missoula, but you can order online as well.
