    New scope for a 30/06

I mostly use a VX3 3.5-10x40 for my primary bolt action deer rifles. For me its where performance meets price. Most of mine are the VX3 variant non CDS. I am an eastern whitetail hunter that doesnt twist. I cant say I ever had an issue with mine. I’m not tough on equipment but my rifles spend...

Am i in the right place or not?

I would figure out where I was going to set up on several likely places and different wind directions on the 5 acres and stay the heck out of there. It doesn't take too much pressure on a woods that small to run deer out. Deer may end up using that woods as a safe place once the season starts...

Meat safety - wounded animal 3

I killed a whitetail deer once that had an injury. It was clearly festered and infected. I was young then seemingly bullet proof and full of courage and low on experiences. I butchered the deer and tossed the festered quarter. The rest of the meat looked ok. When I cooked it it had a terrible...

40 mm vs. 50 mm scope.

I have owned a few 50s. I traded or sold them. Just seemed too big to me as a hunter who always used good quality 42s,40sand 36s. I never had any issues with enough light , even in the woods with my scopes in legal shooting hrs. That said a 50 isnt exactly a hubble telescope.

Percentage of fat in ground meat

Generally and for my initial processing I’m in the zero camp. I always added 20-30% fatty pork trimmings to my ground whitetail. About 6 years ago I decided to go straight up venison. If I make a burger I add a bit of olive oil or avocado oil. I buy 4 -5 big rib roasts a couple times a year when...

    Is .5 HP Grinder enough?

Yep, I find butts to have about the right fat content for my taste. I’m getting so lazy I been buying boneless butts because they are easier to cut up.

    Is .5 HP Grinder enough?

It might take some time to find a seasoning you like. I get most of mine from Butcher Packer online. Good prices and good seasonings. If you ask about seasonings you will get 100 different suggestions. Good luck.

    Leupold 2.5-8x36 still worth it?

I have one mounted in Talley LWs on my Winchester XPR 350 Legend. I wanted a lighter weight set up for woods hunting in Wayne National Forest in Ohio. I really like that scope. A year after I bought it we stopped woods ( big timber) hunting and we started hunting farms in NW Ohio. I was a bit...

    Is .5 HP Grinder enough?

Smart move. Once I got used to using the foot pedal I came to really like it. Enjoy your new grinder and good luck this season. I hope you get plenty of use out of it. Watch for pork butts to go on sale and pick up a few and make some premium pork sausage. I figure I make a premium fresh...

    Is .5 HP Grinder enough?

I will attest to the 5 lb stuffer being misery. It is the equivalent of the kitchen aid attachment grinder. I cheaped out when I bought mine. Less than a year later I had the 15lb and wish I had the 30.

    Is .5 HP Grinder enough?

I hear you. Grinders are expensive , even on sale. For myself they are the backbone of my processing equipment. I would definitely consider the MEAT equipment. I dont think they were around when I bought my equipment. They seem to have competitive prices and get good reviews.

    Is .5 HP Grinder enough?

Not in my opinion. 1 hp “minimum” for a good experience. A lot of things will work. But it takes some power to work good. Once I used a good powerful grinder I never wanted to use a grinder that would just get the job done. Small grinders work great for a few lbs of a special sausage or fresh...

    Slugs in a Smoothbore?

When I shot a smoothbore in Ohio I used Rottweil Brenneke slugs. For a smoothbore were accurate and they killed deer like the hammer of thor.. You wont have any issues blood trailing. I eventually moved on to a rifled barrel with a scope. The lightfield sabots where much more accurate but I...

    Meat slicer recommendations

This about the feedback I got from a few buds that have them when I was considering one. Only one of the guys I asked thought a lot of his and he got an old Hobart from a deli closing down for $50 bucks. And even he complained it was a pain to clean up for just some smaller jobs he used it for...

    Copper fouling

If no accuracy issues keep on shooting it. I would probably keep cleaning the copper out to keep from getting it too fouled.
