Should 17 year old apply for big three?
Forty some years ago F&G didn't publish the drawing odds, and I would go to the F&G Regional Headquarters near me and get the odds directly from them. Also 35-45 years ago there weren't as many people applying and hunting Moose, Sheep, and Goats, and that's when I shot mine. My first goat tag...- buffybr

Should 17 year old apply for big three?
First year applicants have drawn tags in Montana, but... As a Montana resident with maximum "bonus" points, I've unsuccessfully applied here 45 years for mountain goat, 41 years for sheep, and 35 years for moose tags.- buffybr

Great write up and pictures. My GF and I hunted with Gary in 2014. He had a great lodge and staff. I also liked his policy of different class of stags in different properties so you can shoot any stag on each property and not having to worry if the stag that you shoot is in your price range...- buffybr

Favorite 100% copper bullets for 300 Win Mag handloads?
Not a Win Mag but I've made one shot kills on bull elk with 168 gr Barnes TSX and TTSX bullets from my .300 Wby. My elk, and everything else load now for my .300 Wby is with 180 gr TTSX bullets.- buffybr

Did you shoot your first deer with open sights?
Yes, my Dad didn't hunt so in 1965 I went deer hunting with a college roommate to the hunting camp his Dad and a friend had near Craig, CO. He loaned me a 94 Winchester in .32 Spl and I shot my first deer, a spike muley buck. Back at college, I proudly hung those spike antlers on my bedroom...- buffybr

I think that this is a TERRIBLE idea. Moose, sheep, and goat tags are very special, as are most moose, sheep, and goat hunters. Not all hunters have the physical ability to to hunt these animals. I've applied for these tags every year that I've been eligible --- 48 years. And now, at 78...- buffybr

Sights or no sights?
I like the looks of a clean barrel on my bolt action rifles. In over 50 years of big game hunting mostly in Montana, but all over the world, I've never had a scope fail or any other reason to have a second or back up rifle. I like the iron sights on my classic blackpowder rifles and my Model... -

I agree with you 100%! For the past almost 20 years, my "go to" hunting bullet for my 7 mm RM has been the 160 gr Accubond. I've used it on elk and antelope here in Montana, a variety of African animals, and I even used them to put two caribou species and my 900 lb ice age Hippie cow into the...- buffybr

I'm sure glad it wasn't this complicated when I started elk hunting. I just bought a .30-06, some basic reloading equipment from Herter's, loaded some Sierra and Hornady 150 and 180 gr Cup and core bullets, and proceeded to fill my freezer with elk meat.- buffybr
