To hang bear bags or not to hang bear bags when backcountry hunting.

The articles you posted are just saying that hanging doesn't work as well as cannisters. There is no doubt that bear bags are inferior to cannisters, which is why areas with frequent bear issues are increasingly mandating the cannisters, but that's a far cry from putting food in the tent with...

To hang bear bags or not to hang bear bags when backcountry hunting.

Around here, you can be ticketed for leaving food out. And some areas require a canister instead of hanging. I think it’s important to note that it’s not just protecting your stuff/food/safety. You’re protecting the bears, ultimately.

Do it. It’s so easy and it has many benefits/few downsides.

    Project 2025 and Conservation

First point is entirely valid in my opinion and many of my more progressive friends are upset about this. I don't really like it either, but it's also ridiculous to think that if a candidate dies, drops out due to health issues, etc. late in the process, that their side just concedes the...

    Biden drops out

I really liked the third season. I found it interesting and somehow relaxing to watch, even though there were intense moments. I enjoyed all the musical montages of food-related stuff and was ok with the kind of limited plot line. Also, that Biden guy probably did the right thing, even if it...

    Biden positive for Covid 19

538 still has Biden winning in more computer models than he loses... I hope he recovers quickly. I hope Trump's ear heals quickly too. I'm trying to spend less time with the news these days, for my own sanity. Making music and fishing as much as I can!

    Short 7mm-08 barrel length?

I'd vote for 20, but I do have a .30-06 that is cut to 19" and I've never had cause to wish it were longer... Make sure you know what lengths are legal in your state. I think under 18" is considered a pistol in my state.

    Sunday Pic of the Day

Sought refuge from the heat and high water on a little brook trout stream that is near and dear to me. Had to retire a faithful old fly after the 13th fish (today)...

.308 win bullet selection for new reloader

The obvious choices would be a 165 accubond, or a 150 grain mono (the TTSX and the E-tip have been my favorite monos). Any of those should check all your boxes.

    Muley Freak in trouble?

Yeah, the dogs are sooo important to me that I'll use a 9mm handgun, instead of some other well-suited, not-sexy-enough weapon... What a tool..

    A loss for the PTD

6 pages and no one mentioned that there's a landowner on the river with the last name, "Watermolen"??!!

Reluctantly joining in. This made me chuckle:

I liked the butterfly. That spot is about 18 miles from my house.

    Reduced recoil bullet selection

I don't think the issue of expansion velocity for monos is really a consideration inside of 150 yards. I've loaded several reduced loads for my kids' .308 using Barnes bullets and they've done fine on deer and pronghorn. I just make sure the bullet is going 2200fps+ at their max range.

Adjusting a Williams WGRS peep sight

That's cool. It would be nice if something like that were available for about 1/3 of the price, but good to know that's out there.
