I love reading sheep adventures. To me, they are almost as fun as being on a sheep hunt of my own.
I especially love reading about virgin sheep hunters, willing to take on the whole experience with little help and crushing it.
I sincerely thank you for sharing with the rest of us. Great...
Well poorman,
You have been fortunate, but you are also sheep rich compared to 99% of all hunters. Only the Desert stands in your way of a legit slam.
I am also fortunate and sheep rich, but only because I live in a state I could draw my desert and Wyoming was also kind to me with a Rocky tag...
I've only been "tag rich" once many years ago. Unfortunately I didn't do either hunt justice.
Good luck on moose and elk and thanks for the update! Cool videos.
That's a smokin combo in that rifle, and 1/2 MOA all day long has to put a smile on any shooter's face!
I'm guessing saving on a rebarrel also made you grin!
NICE
It appears to me that Lucky, Wide Load, and Big Sexy are the oldest.
I don't see any of then breaking 180 but they are all fine rams.
If you have a tag, I'd go with the one that floats your boat and forget what the rest of us think.
I was a die-hard Barnes guy for 25 years. Loved the penetration. Then I found Hammers.
It seems they have solved the occasional pencil effect of Barnes and in my rifles, they are more accurate
Availability crushes every other bullet and the owners seem like family.
Yes, I'm now a "Hammerhead".
Worthy goals accomplished and you obviously got what you set out to do.
I agree that a true sheep hunt should end with a deep feeling of respect and accomplishment.
It sounds like you did that. Congratulations. Well done, but where's the red bandana in the kill shot? ;)
It sounds like you experienced a typical, but amazing sheep adventure.
Perhaps now you know why people asked you why you hadn't started sheep hunting.
Well done!
Thanks for the video "fix" poorman.
You will be glad you have that footage and pictures.
I still regularly watch my 2004 Wyoming Bighorn hunt video. It's a great way to speed up long winter nights.
For sure extended scouting makes a hunt way more pleasurable. I scouted 18 days before my desert sheep hunt and shot my ram on the third day of the hunt.
Absolutely nothing to be Sorry about! I'm super happy you took us along with all the pics and updates. The videos would be a bonus, but don't fret over it.
You are a class act in my book poormanslam, and given your effort, I was confident it was going to happen for you.👊
The videos on post 55 and 56 say they are private and take me to a list of youtube videos.
I looked through and couldn't find it but I'm an idiot so it could easily be me not knowing what I'm doing.
Thanks for asking.
Well done Poormanslam!
You definitely put in your dues and you were rewarded with an outstanding Ram.
Kudos to you and all involved. If you are like me, your only regret will be that you found success so early in the hunt.
But any way you look at it, you had an adventure of a lifetime!
Thanks...
I've never thought of the 6.5x284 as a barrel burner, especially any more than the other cartridges listed here. For sure it will last as long as the 280ai.
As you said, if it's a hunting rifle, you ought to get a good decade of shooting.
I'm planning on mine outlasting me, but I'm kinda old!
