Where do we mail the care packages to keep you in the field for the entire week. No more of these "I guess I should have hunted this morning because he was there when I wasn't."
I have a 2020 Nissan titan pro 4x with stock tires and picked up some WBS04 5.5 mm square straight link alloy chains from tirechain.com. They come a little long some you need to trim the length and remove one cross bar - but with the spider tensioner they are really tight and there appears to...
Someone smarter than me can verify, but as I understood it all three of these cartridges use the same parent case. It's necked down for the 270, and it's necked down and blown out for the AI. So, at first glance the charge is similar with slight increase (5 percent ish) for the AI and the best...
Based on your comments about "inexpensive ammo," "not reloading," "kids," "single car garage," I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest youre in the same boat as me. You need a boring, reliable, and common caliber. My choice would be 7mm rem mag, but 300 win mag or 30.06 would also be great...
I looked at the retrax but I couldn't get over how much room it takes inside the already small bed. My intention is to put together a custom roof rack using 8020, but not immediately, probably a summer job.
Tires will come, but we're moving so it's also going to have to wait. I'll get through...
Quick follow-up on this as the trip finished up a couple weeks ago. Things went a bit different as my hunting partner flaked and I was stuck in quarantine for the first day of the season. I ended up camping in the truck and while it wasn't quite wide enough to stretch out it was comfortable...
It was certainly a learning experience this year. I'm sure Covid affected things but I adjusted my hunt to a much more "civilized" area to get the new guy into big game hunting in a more comfortable atmosphere - then he flaked at the last minute. Luckily I've got one more tag this year.
This year up near Craig I heard the zing of a bullet screaming past my ear, I hit the deck, as soon as the shooting stopped I got in the truck (it was 20 yards away) and just started driving. I was covered in blaze, I think they were shooting at a doe below me, but it soured me on the entire...
Buh buh but that carbon barrel! If I did the reasonable and thoughtful thing I wouldn't get the carbon barrel and then how would people know I'm a serious hunter.
I think that's the trick with the ultralight, it makes people think twice about savage period. That shiny carbon barrel, with all...
It may just be a "marketing" cost, so they might even take a loss. I know that I hadn't even considered a savage until the ultralight came out. Think of it like a halo model for a car manufacturer, by demonstrating they can do something really impressive they make the rest of the line look...
The other aspect is the capability of the hunter. I can easily see how someone who is skilled and talented gets lots of opportunities and has the chance to pass on animals. I don't - I'm happy to get the chance, even if it's on opening day. However, as I learn more stuff and see more animals...
I've got the late season doe tag in Golden gate park and am considering trying out the "shock pouch" method of pack out that meateater just did a video on. https://www.themeateater.com/watch/6209664304001/how-to-shock-pouch-a-deer-with-clay-newcomb
Have you folks talked to Seek Outside about condensation? They have quite a few recommendations to improve it. I don't own a bit teepee but have used them in a few trips and with the wood stove they are pretty amazing. As long as you have good air flow we didn't have any condensation issues...
The problem with the Sig fury is that weird two part case. If the military does pick it up than it'll be available, otherwise it's going to be proprietary and will die quickly.
If you're in the truck just bring the big stove. It'll be fast and easy and after a long cold day it's totally worth it. My last truck trip I just filled a cooler with anything that looked good in the pantry - it worked pretty well.
Forget Velveeta, this is the nacho cheese recipe you want:

It's a standard in our house, though we usually as sausage and veg.
Unfortunately I think if you do this by the numbers the city folks who are neither ranchers or hunters will vote for mountain biking, hiking, and nothing else.
