I don't feel so bad now. I've been applying for moose and sheep since 1985 with no luck. I get to focus on deer and elk with no other distractions, makes life less complicated. 😀
My son switched to hunting with a longbow several years ago. He did it for the challenge. After 3 years of having nice bulls in close, but not able to shoot, he switched back to a compound. Opening day the next season, we call in a bull, he kills it at about 60yds. His hunting season lasted...
This year and plan on hunting with a recurve for the first time. The main reason I haven't before is simply because it's way easier to kill something with a compound bow. I'm at the point where I don't feel the need to kill, but like the idea of the added challenge of using a traditional bow.
Greenhorn, you're asking a question that you know the answer to. Cow elk hunting first might scare the bulls off the property, and make killing that big bull they wanted less predictable.
No I don't think that the Billionaire cares if he has to buy more hay, or if he even has cattle for that matter. Your suggestion of giving him a bull tag every time 20 cows get killed on his property, is a great one - for him. He gets 20 elk removed that he doesn't want, and he gets to "hunt"...
So the Billionaire landowners get to hold the elk as ransom unless they get handed bull tags. You don't negotiate with kidnappers, it just encourages more kidnapping. Just lower the number of tags available in these units, let the elk numbers get out of control, and then when the billionaires...
I've had two encounters while bowhunting. On both occasions I had elk bugling when a mountain lion came in. The first one came running slowly over the tops of blowdowns straight to me. It was about 10 feet away and I growled at it and it took off. The second occasion was a couple of years...
Funny, everyone here in Montana used to worry that California liberals would move here. However, something much worse happened, instead of liberals who don't hunt, we got invaded with folks wanting to come to conservative Montana. Now they are all buying hunting licenses.
Governor Gianforte appointed Hank and the FWP Commission. And we the voters of Montana elected Gianforte. Time to quit apportioning blame and accept responsibility for this mess we are in.
So what exactly is making a unit first and only choice trying to accomplish? Another question - why is there even such a thing as a second choice? I guess that allowing for a second choice is to ensure they hit their quota, but first and only is a way to not hit a quota? Why the differences...
The people who got booted out of the draw did put the "first choice only" unit first. They got booted out for putting in second choice units also, and there are units that can be second choice.
Higher gas prices will effect me. Hopefully, for the better. The last several years I've kept jumping from place to place during hunting season, burning up gas, driving all over. I keep saying that I just need to camp for longer periods in one place like I used to. Well that's what I'll do...
In my opinion it's housing cycles that drive the economy. A lot of people are employed in the construction business, and suppliers of the construction business. Eventually those that can afford a home (and some that cannot) have one. Then prices drop, selling drops, building slows, people...
I was watching an English soccer game at the weekend. It showed Tom Brady sitting in the crowd with the teams owners (also the Tampa Bay owners). In that game 37 year old Cristiano Ronaldo scores all 3 goals for his team in the victory. 37 is extremely old for soccer, and Cristiano Ronaldo is...
