I've got 3 CDS scopes and love them all, but have never sent in the info to get the custom turrets made because I've swapped them between rifles and changed ammo a few times. Well, they are pretty well set on the guns they are going to stay on now, and although I hand load some of my ammo, I...
I've hunted 2nd and 3rd OTC the last 3 years. A couple of encounters and one bull to show for it. The issue that I have with those seasons is that they run simultaneously with deer, and the woods are just too crowded for my tastes. Ergo, my strategy has shifted and I just bought my first elk...
I know that the sarcasm is thick here, but the idea of a locator chip embedded in an arrow shaft is pretty dang slick if you think about it. Anything that aids recovery would be good, new tech in my book. As for long range...i guess im getting older...used to be fine with it...less so these days.
I give my wife a hard time for buying plexxus and other overpriced fad powders that make our neighbors money and don't work unless they become your new religion. She sometimes "feels" better, but never loses any real weight or has any other noticeable benefits.
If I bought any of this stuff...
The wife and I have every reason in the world not to pull up roots. Been in our home south of DFW for 11 years, early 40s, kids in good schools, great house on a great lot, good church, good friends, reasonbly close to family, own a business here...and yet...we both have a longing for the west...
****SOLD****
Bought this in September and used it on my solo elk/deer hunt in October. Worked flawlessly to keep me in touch with family. The service is available annual or monthly. One month unlimited was about $75 if I recall correctly. I also paid $20 for the S&R annual membership which...
Good advice so far. I'm studying the draw system and don't mind paying the extra $ for the special draw if needed to get a slightly better odds or unit. We are going to drive up, so the tags and maybe hotel are the only significant expenses. We are not looking at all for trophy animals, just...
Every year, we go somewhere for an anniversary trip. Where we go depends on kids and money, but we have been blessed the last 2 years to go to 5 star resorts in Cancun.
So we started discussing 2016 and we always start with blue sky dreamy ideas and then settle down to reality.
Mrs. Sabot...
WOW...we are barely into December, and this has been the most epic season of my life!
I decided to do some NEW things this year. First, I picked up a bow this summer and began to practice in the back yard after work. (very therapeutic). Second, I decided to do a western big game hunt SOLO...
If we were not up against a hard deadline we would absolutely try again in the morning. This would have been her second deer. She said she is very humbled and sad for the deer. I think that she has the right perspective and will be back at it in the future. Already mentioned trying again next...
She shot at a doe right at sunset this evening. Thought it was a good shot but wasn't sure. About 120 yards. Found fur and a chunk of bone about the size of my index finger. Tracked her for 2 hours finding several more pieces of bone along a very light blood trail. Drops of blood that would stop...
I'm headed out Thursday. It's finally here. Our small business has done really well on the last month, so I have a lot of peace about leaving it for a week. I'll be hunting unit 71 near Rico if any of you happen to be in the area I'll probably be glad to hold a conversation with another human...
I hate all the stupid truck brand bragging stickers...can't dodge it ram it, blah blah blah, bowties, blah blah blah, fixed or repaired daily...just drive your damn truck and shut up. What do you care what anyone else drives?
And thank God we no longer have to see Calvin pissing on whatever...
So I thought I would update this post. I went to the range and chrono'd my superformace ammo along with my hand loads and some winchester CPX2 factory ammo.
The Superformance GMX clocked in at 3130 avg (The box says 3200, so not too bad)
The Superfromance SST was around 3080 avg
My CPX ammo...
Thanks guys! I've made contact with a local outfitter who has been a tremendous resource already. He's agreed to be an emergency contact for my wife and offers a pack out service to hunters in the area if he is not packing out clients. Depending on the situation, I may opt to call in help...
Plans are nearly finalized. I can't believe this is really happening! I bought a Delorme InReach to cover the peace of mind base. Other additions are a expedition grade tent and a few extra base layers.
