    AZ sheep tags

Thanks GJ! I have a fantastic elk archery elk permit in NM. The hunt ends on the same day as the ADBSS seminar. I want to go to the seminar so much that I might roll up the elk hunt a day early to attend. If I'm too pathetic to knock an elk over in 16D before the last day I should give up anyway.

Decent scope,BDC vs Turret plus matching cartridge

I used a basic 3x9 scope for 40 years. Killed lots of big game out to about 500 yds with very few mishaps. As I hit my mid 50s a few years ago I upgraded to a 3.5x18 power scope. I have found that I really like having the extra zoom up to about 12 power. I don't think I have ever shot an animal...

Is the Outdoorsman tripod worth it?

I have 3 outdoorsmans tripods. Compact medium, medium, tall (?). I have the micro pan head, pan head, and pistol grip. I love the outdoorsmans tripods, plus they are great people and always take care of me. For backpack type hunts I use the medium compact and the micro-pan head. It handles my...

    MT: Gianforte vs Quist

If you are on this forum it is likely that hunting on federal public lands is pretty much your life. You need to vote that way. Gianforte or whatever the hell his name wants to transfer federal public lands to the state. You just can't vote for that if you want your kids and future generations...

    Best Out-of-state point systems?

AZ is tough to draw but with their recent change to the bonus point system half the permits going to nonresidents (up to 5% of the total per hunt code) are awarded randomly regardless of bonus points. You are in the running for a tag every time you apply. If you are a bowhunter the way you cash...

Sheep Hunting covered in New York Times (Positive article for hunters)

So sheep should just be allowed to perish? All wildlife doesn't directly pay for itself. If that was the measure we would have never paid to bring nearly all of our game species back from the brink of extinction around the turn of the 19th century. Your numbers ignore Pittman Robertson and...

Arizona changing NR tag allocation process

There seems to be a common theme of guys in their mid 50s upset by the change. That sort of points out why the change was needed. The old system greatly benefitted middle age hunters and left out young hunters (or hunters that gained the means or desire to apply out of state later in life). The...

Arizona changing NR tag allocation process

I like the new system. But it wouldn't have sgnificanty impacted resident draw odds if they would have guaranteed nonresidents 5% of the random draw tags. We are paying $150 for a general hunting license after all. We provide a huge amount of the funding for AZ. It wouldn't kill em to give us...

    National Sportsmen land transfer/sale petition

Sure the states will manage for everybody. In NM you can't camp on state trust land. You can't go on state trust land unless you have a hunting license. Access is controlled by the lessee. You can only scout a few days before the season for which you hold a license. You can't send your friend...

Militia takes over wildlife refuge headquarters

Ranchers are just pissed because finally the rest of the people, through the Feds, have decided to no longer give ranchers free reign on the western public lands that we all own. Anyone that hunts has seen the huge areas of public land and waterways that have been overgrazed and abused for...

Utah expo tag decision: December 18th at 10 am, link to live feed

The fact that there is even an Expo and so many and such a high percentage of permits are for sale and not in the drawing in UT is what hunters should be concerns about. It doesn't matter who conducts the sale, you have already lost those permits because they are not in the drawing. You can call...

Kuiu Service and Quality Going Downhill

I have been a very loyal Kuiu customer from their beginning. I have bought tons of clothes and packs and gear. I have noticed that as they have gotten huge they have become indifferent toward their customers and their quality control has diminished. With premium products it seems reasonable to...

    OnXmaps on Cell Phone

Maybe there is a problem with my installation or I'm just dumb, but on my iPhone (6 with most current iOS) I am having a real hard time caching maps to use in the field. First, it is very difficult to select the derailed scale maps of a large area because you have to zoom in so much that you...
