    New Mexico Pronghorn Privatization

Stay tuned. I am assisting the New Mexico Wildlife Federation in generating reports on the private/public and resident/nonresident big game tag allocations in New Mexico for all big game species. Over the past couple of years we have focused on Elk and EPLUS. But as you can see, our big game...

    New Mexico Pronghorn Privatization

If you thought privatization of New Mexico’s elk was bad. Check out the level of privatization of New Mexico’s pronghorn tags. 67% of New Mexico’s pronghorn tags are privatized. A small percentage (176, 2.6% of the 6,814 tags) are privatized through the outfitter draw set-aside. The rest are...

    Take Back Your Elk

Riddle me this. New Mexico has by far more nonresident tags (as a share of the total) than any other western state. Nearky 40% of New Mexico elk tags are nonresident. In AZ for instance only 8% of all elk tags are nonresident. In all the other states except Colorado and New Mexico the...

    NM elks...

“So many private acres are turned into open elk hunting land” ? Based on the reality of the situation that is a laughable supposition. With the enormous disincentive to open gate type agreements and other public access that private tags represent the amount of private land open to public hunting...

Believe me. It’s not “just one guy” in New Mexico Just in the last 5 years or so the proportion of New Mexican hunters that have come to understand and despise NM privatization has gone from a minority to a large minority. It’s a phenomenon and attitude that will never go backwards. This is...

Not that it matters what I have done or you have done when it comes to state policy, but my grandparents were awarded Landowner of the Year by the Colorado Division of Wildlife. They neither expected nor received any compensation, benefits, or anything in return. I put thousands of hours of...

    NM elks...

Riddle me this. By your logic, how can there be elk in places like AZ and MT and all across the west wo landowner permits? No state does what NM does with regards to privatization.

    NM elks...

Seems that most people think this is a cool hunting story. But as a New Mexican i have a different opinion. It is a story about how screwed up New Mexico's wholesale privatization of its big game tags is. Over 40% of New Mexico's elk tags are privatized by private landowner permits and the...

140 AC private tags. Only in New Mexico. In both UT and NV 10,000 acres required to qualify for landowner tags. And in both UT and NV direct public benefit is required to obtain private tags. In UT between 10% and 20% of the private land tags must be in the draw for UT residents only. In NV...

California Clark Kingstons (Zone 3) Desert Sheep

This is a shot in the dark. My nephew drew a Clark/Kingstons Desert Sheep tag in California. I will be helping him. Does anyone know the area that would be willing to help me with info? I will be heading out soon and spending the pretty much the end of November and month of December...

Who has done a diy mountain goat hunt in the lower 48?

I’ve been on two. Both in UT. First one my friend had that tag and shot a B&C goat. Huge bases. Second I had the tag during 2021 and mostly hunted solo and didn’t kill anything. It was rough. Lots of early snow.

No results for me yet. UT must be reviewing my app because they can’t believe I drew desert bighorn after drawing goat during 2021. I’m sure that is it.

Points are just a boomer special. I hate them. Sliding hunting opportunity up the age ladder is one of the greediest measures a generation has taken since wildlife was put on the road to recovery a hundred years ago.

With all due (public trust doctrine) respect. You are a CO nonresident. Who cares ? From one nonresident to another.

    May CPW Commission meeting

Thank god Commissioner Otero told CPW to shove their unbelievable 75/25 across the board recommendation. Reduction of CO resident share of tags in any way, shape, or form is utterly unacceptable. I don’t understand why Colorado hunters have not been in riot mode over CPWs long and hard push...
