    I was just curious how many people carry a pistol when elk hunting to use as bear defense. I am going on my first elk hunt in Montana this year and the land owner has sent me several pictures of bear on his ranch. Has anyone ever tried to hunt bear near an elk carcass after killing an elk???

    The ranch has some cow pasture with lots of water, a small creek running through it, with several open fields and meadows, and both scattered and dense timber for cover. Is what I have been told with shots out to 450 yards.

    I vote for the wind plex I have a couple high dollar Leupolds without it and when I go out and its super windy it reminds me that no matter what I am kentucky windage at best without one.
