More Discounted Non-residents licenses for Montana

Back to the original topic of this post. A doctor from Minnesota has been calling my family members to inquire about leasing hunting rights. My family members had him call me to go over his proposal. He informed me that he and three of his buddies are all from Montana but now live outside the...

Elk Camp At the Capitol - January 24th 2023

Since my above questions went unanswered I'll bump this to the top and poke @Ben Lamb for the info. (Montana Citizens’ Elk Management Coalition: "The Coalition has been active this past year working to improve the status-quo of elk management.") Question: Ben, has the Montana Citizens’ Elk...

    Montana Mule Deer Mismanagement

@MTTW is correct again! I just received "THE CALL"! Deer questions were a joke. 1) Did you hunt deer? 2) How many days did you hunt deer? 3) Did you harvest a deer? Antelope, not 700, questions mirror the deer. 700 antelope doe tag questions were a bit better with HDs hunted and days hunted per...

Private vs. Public in the East

$20/acre to hunt a whitetail? It is extremely depressing to think what hunting was and what it will be in not to distant future.

    Cancer. A Friend's Final 1-3 Month Prognosis.

Cancer has taken most of my family and a few friends over the years. Never is easy. Once your buddy has excepted his fate, the conversations will come easier. In the later stages, the conversations are heart wrenching. My advise, go see your buddy ASAP. Your conversations, about any and all...

HB 243 - Mandatory In-Person Field Day for Hunters Ed

I accompanied both of my kids through their in-class hunter ed and field days. I also attended the first year that bowhunter ed was available, in-class, with my father. He was proud that he managed 100% on the final test and I missed one. Never did hear the end of that one! I attended the...

Opinion pieces like this bug me

HB-42 has really never been about elk numbers. It has always been a long game play for Ranching for Wildlife. You are correct in that the folks beating their fists on the table about FWP not able to manage elk to EMP numbers are the same folks benefitting from the over objectives. All the items...

    I’m out of a job

Once you have crossed the bridge there will be multiple paths to take. It's your decision which path to take that will lead you where you want to go. Good Luck and stay safe.

Private vs. Public in the East

I think that if Montana would implement mandatory harvest reporting, with a "check the box" private or public, folks would be shocked....and in 10 years, they'll be horrified.

Tag Soup How Many Have Had It

Tag soup? Yeah, I rank it right up there with tenderloin and backstrap! As a NR. I've had multiple deer, elk and bear tags go unfilled. Most were archery hunts but a few I could have used a rifle if desired. All were DIY hunts with a few exceptions of hunting with friend and family. I'm not a...

More Discounted Non-residents licenses for Montana

Thanks for sharing NR. That article sums up the history, backed up by the numbers, of what has happened to our state. The whole system needs to be scrapped and redone to accommodate actually managing our game populations.

    What's yer total?

Your divorce statement brought back memories that I have not thought about in a very long time. A buddy of mine went through a similar bad divorce in the early 80's. At that time, he was married to his high school sweetheart and was consumed with being the youngest person to acquire a sheep...
