The Rem 700 footprint is very nice. I tossed a TriggerTech Diamond in it and it was a very nice upgrade over the factory trigger. I was contemplating the CZ 457 or Tikka T1x, but they just felt like small rifles given the bolt and action size.
The 1:8 really opens up opportunities if you handload. Unfortunately, I’m not really aware of factory 22-250 ammo that’s heavier than like a 60 grainer.
That being said, a 55 gr Vmax or Btip is tough to beat!
I wouldn't say I've had specific goals in mind, but a bighorn sheep has always been on my radar. Hoping to strike gold and draw a tag, but thinking I may just do a guided hunt at some point in the next 5-10 years. I love deer and elk hunting, but feel like a sheep hunt would be an awesome challenge.
I have too many options, but the top contenders would are:
- 338 RUM shooting 285 gr ELDM or the new 245 HHT
- 7 SAUM shooting 175 Berger
- 6.5 PRC shooting 140 hybrid
I killed my best bull during archery season of 2021. The past couple of seasons, I just didn’t see the type of bulls I was hoping for. Maybe this fall will be the ticket!

You’ll never draw if you don’t apply - but it sure does add up after a while. Like others mentioned, with Idaho’s convenience fee, it’s about $300 I won’t get back just for a moose app. I’ve considered just saving and purchasing tags down the road, like a BC mountain goat, etc.
Following along - way cool! I remember doing an elk hunt when I was 14. I slept in the back of my uncle's yukon. Was a great time. I'm not mechanical in any way, but this is awesome. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
1 TBSP Salt, 2 TBSP Coriander, and 3 TBSP black pepper. It was a recipe I found online on another forum. I did think the ratio of the pepper was a little much, but not crazy overpowering.
I'd look into New Mexico landowner tags - would probably land you around your budget. On another forum, I've seen a few members post with great experiences.
