I think so as well. I would have liked to have given him another year or two but the yotes are just too thick where I hunt. I had him shoulder mounted; it was on a two week hunt exactly this time of year. Thanksgiving week has always been good here.
I’ve done it but he had bone poking out of the knee joint. I was able to watch him for a few days before deciding to feed myself and not the coyotes. Was a nice deer with lots of potential.
I don’t have a SO but another brand. I have a three season inner for it and it will keep the condensation off whatever is in it but the tent will still be wet as hell inside without running the stove.
Now if the temps are cold or warm enough it’s not as bad but it seems that in the 30-45...
Store bought pork but I usually use wild hog. I bought this roast to make sausage with but got too busy so threw it into the slow cooker last night with some carnita mix, Rojo grande rub and a little Dr Pepper. Cooked on low all night, shredded this morning and then fried in cast iron this...
Some good cooks here! Tonight I made whitetail backstrap stir fry with a Japanese bbq sauce reduction over coconut jasmine rice. I used three different types of onions and a yellow and orange pepper; regret not adding a red or green for color.
Damn you guys, I almost broke down in tears reading this thread. I’m keeping the girl home from school the rest of the week and I’m going to show her the ropes of grinding venison and making sausage. I have the teepee set up in the back yard with rain and a cold front coming in so we can go hang...
Pre covid I was looking at going to Hawaii with my wife and hunting axis and goats then maybe some fishing mixed in with days on the beach with fruity drinks. That sounds really fun to me.
I view a lot of cheaper easy to do DIY hunts as once in a lifetime simply because I don’t have the time...
I’m on the border of San Saba and Cherokee.
It was a bit frosty this morning. Lots of deer movement. I saw a pretty good buck jump the fence and onto the neighbors.
Had a hog and a cottontail come into camp last night.
This is what I was going to suggest. I just drape a wool blanket over the cot or sleeping pad and found it makes a huge difference.
I do need a better pad though.
Thanks! I use to build them and had around a dozen at one time. I built this one around the time I started shooting less but it still has around 5k through it. I think the lower has around 25-30k on it now though.
I’ve mentioned it here before but before I met my wife I worked, hunted and guided on this property before it got split up into multiple pieces. I pretty much lived outside fall to spring and the adjustment has been hard especially after my daughter was born. My sense of duty is to be home every...
Is all you need to reset your attitude. I haven’t been out to my hunting property since early January. In fact I’ve barely spent anytime outdoors since spring. I’m either working, raising my daughter or sitting my fat ass in front of the TV watching other people do things outside. I’ve been in a...
I was able to upgrade to the Heritage level this year. RMEF does some good work and I’m glad to be able to give a little more this year.
Winning some gear wouldn’t hurt my feelings.
