How do you volunteer in your Community?

I pick up litter. When I go to shoot at the local gravel pit, I return with a pickup bed full of shot up TVs, Freezers, propane tanks, paper targets, etc. When I hike the local trails, I come back with a pack full of beer cans, etc. Picking up litter is my "personal fee" for the privilege to...

    Montana Hawks and Owls

This year has been a population high of voles...a record high. Thus brood size and survival rate of owls and hawks has been high.

    Young Bird Dog (hopefully)

I used to hunt with English Setters and Vislas. For the past 25 years or so it has been labs for me. I primarily hunt huns in Sept. then pheasants/sharptails until the season ends and switch to watefowl in January. I hunt my lab solo and silently. I hunt silently so no nagging the dog to stay...

Cashing in U. S. Savings Bonds

I sent in the bonds that will not mature for a decade as a test. It is supposed to take at least six weeks to convert the paper bond to an electronic bond. If there are no glitches, I will proceed converting the other paper bonds to electronic. The bonds that mature in 2025 I will hold onto...

    Dog vest recommendation

I use mo-marsh neoprene vests for cold waterfowl hunting because they are easily adjustable. For the uplands, typically with my labs, most of the wear and tear are on the head and a vest will not prevent that.

    Incoming geese

A common site here in western Montana....geese feeding in the fields, then coming to water around sunset.

Cashing in U. S. Savings Bonds

I have paper I and EE bonds that will mature every year for the next decade. What are the pros and cons of storing them in a bank safe deposit box and cashing at a local bank versus mailing them in with a new user account at TreasuryDirect.gov? Thanks.

    HTer Fitness Goals '24 Edition

Being from Alaska, I do not like heat. This summer is the first time I've experienced 90 degrees in 24 years. So I bike in low gear at dawn when it is typically in the 60s. And I solo canoe, checking out potential waterfowl hunting spots. And reverse lunges every other morning. I still hike at...
