This is my viewpoint as well. If you have a tag you don't get to build a point for that year. I hunt a lot of OTC hunts, so it would hurt me but I think the double-dip is an issue. It would probably also reduce crowding in OTC units.
If you aren't going regularly I would go with an electric or propane option. The drill based ones work well and are bit easier on the budget than an Ion. If money is no objection I'd get an Ion.
I used GoHunt Exclusively for my 2 elk hunt this year. It was very stable with minor issues. I’m letting my onx expire.
The only ONX feature I miss is roadless layers.
Any optic that directly led to a missed animal would be for sale the next day. You invest so much time and money in to a hunt for an optic to be the reason it doesn’t pan out.
