    A great season

We use (and most do) rifle scopes on the single shots. It lets you get a tighter position. The single shot in the photo recoils less than 1/2”. Revolvers use long eye relief handgun scopes.

    A great season

Big game season has come to a close for my household. This season success in the field came almost too easy with an animal a day hitting the ground. My main focus this year was getting the wife to accomplish some firsts. She got her first mule deer and first bull. She really wanted a...

    Thoughts on no blood trail?

You didn’t have a blood trail because you didn’t have an exit. Hunting with handgun there are a number of times the bullet has just lodged under the off side skin. When this happens a blood trail has been minimal but they still die. Without an exit there isn’t good flow to leave much of a...

They don’t even come close to matching the wound channel of a JHP. Until hammer decides to either actually make a HP or start doing the pre cut petals they are basically equivalent to a truncated flat point fmj. Cutting edge pistol bullets at a minimum match the wound channel of a JHP.

I have found going heavy for caliber to gain me nothing. The JHP bullets do better at optimal speed. What I mean by that is a 44 is based around a 240, 357 158, and so on. I reckon if I was going with a solid heavy for caliber may be a way to go. I prefer big wound channels and short tracks...

The gun and projectile will work much farther away than most shooters will. Under 100 yards is a realistically achievable goal for most. I have taken lope and deer to 150 with a 44.

    Black hills Whitetail 44mag

I drove up into the Black Hills of Wyoming the day before my season started and made camp in the bed of the truck. I awoke to a 20 ish degree morning and quickly got ready and headed into the woods at first light. I have hunted this area several times before and I chose this area due to the...
