What was your first big game rifle, and do you still have it?

Remington 7400 synthetic 30-06. One of the happiest days of my life was selling that POS! Bought a Browning A-Bolt LH Medallion 30-06 as a replacement 20+ years ago that still gets the honors for first day of every year's season.

Google Bot Data Mined Super-Fund Site

This thread is definitely the reason I joined HT and it's the only thread I have an alert set for. Growing up as a kid in TN, hunting in the mountains of the west were only a dream, and a big horn ram was the epidemy of those dreams. That meant watching PBS nature documentaries or thumbing...

    High Priced Camo

I'd sell all my camo clothing right now if I could get back what I paid for them!

    Puffy pants

Has anyone tried the Goosefeet Gear custom built down pants? You can pick your fabrics, fill weight, size style and length, etc. They're at the top of my list if I replace my FL Uncompahgre. I would only be replacing due to the packability for longer trips. Happy overall with the FL.

    Montana Moose Hunt - Raingear

Several years ago I switched from First Lite and KUIU rain gear to Outdoor Research. I have their Foray rain jacket and pants. Light weight (12oz for the jacket, 10oz for the pants), packable, and so far very tough. I've put over 500 miles on the AT through them and 2 or 3 seasons in the heavy...

Barnes vs Berger after the shot performance.

I love Berger bullets...for targets. Several years ago I shot a WT doe @ 100yds with a new box of Hornady SST, right behind the shoulder. The meat damage was unreal, so was the amount of lead and shrapnel throughout.. Most Bergers have a thinner jacket than the SST. Before that experiment I...

I want every butthole on the forum! By butthole i mean opinion.

Sako 85 if you can find the right one with the right stock. A Blaser with a nice wood stock will put you over the 6k mark most likely. Cooper M52 is a great option. I don't care for the lines of Dakota rifles as the grip angle makes me feel like I should be shooting quail. As a former Ruger...

    Rain pants!

OR Foray rain pants and jacket. Much happier than with the KUIU and FL I've had. They pack up small, easy on/off, and have held up well.

    Rabbit rifle

You might be able to find a H&R single shot and have it rebored and rechambered to 32. My choice for bunnies is either my grandfather's old Model 42 410 pump or my Browning T-bolt 22.

    Need a spotting scope

Kowa 77 all day! Got mine through S&S Archery when Kowa was on sale. They have great customer service and told me that if I waited 2 months, they would be $300 off. Military discount on top and I had it for $1800.

    Sunday Pic of the Day

It's not Sunday, but it's the best day in the last 15 years!!!!! GO BIG ORANGE!!!

A new low recoil deer rifle

223 will work just fine. My big concern would be the physical stress required to recover the deer after the shot. Ortho injuries don't always heal as fast as we would like. I had 3 disc fused when I was in my early 30's and it took about 5 months before I was willing to put a pack on or lift...

Time for a new barrel..what would you go with?

I've used Hart barrels for many years. They shoot great and they have fantastic customer service.

    Female dog names

I've had a Ruby, Ella, Kayla, and Socks. Socks was originally named Saidy but it didn't take long to change it when her personality came out.

GSP ACL surgery - which type?

Not as well as I hoped. Her leg is still stiff often and makes some loud cracks when she stretches. She's still active with the kids and loves to look for bunnies and birds. She doesn't put much weight on her leg when she doesn't have to. I think this may be her new normal. She's still an active...

    Tennessee Turkeys

I have no problem with NR coming to TN to hunt. I have a problem with my state's wildlife management agency attempting to increase hunting pressure on a species that is in such decline, that we had to reduce the bag limit in attempts to reduce overall harvest. I would have the same problem if...

    Tennessee Turkeys

They advertise the KY herd as growing to the point where it can now donate elk to establish other herds. I doubt I'll ever be one of the lucky 10 people that draw an elk tag in TN. If you ever draw a Pennsylvania tag, I know a guy! ;)

    Tennessee Turkeys

I don't think so. In TN, when you buy a big game tag, it is per weapon season and not for each game animal. If I buy a sportsman's license, that allows me to take the full bag limit throughout the state. In TN the big game seasons are broken down by archery, muzzleloader, and gun season. A...

    DAV moose hunt...WOOHOO!!!!!

Congrats John! I know you’ll have a great experience having your old man with you. Can’t wait to hear all about and I hope you can get some scouting time in!

    Tennessee Turkeys

^^^^^This TN increased their resident license fees in 2015 by a whopping $5 per license. A general hunting/fishing license is now $33 plus $33 for each seasons big game tag you want to add. I buy what’s called the Sportsman license which includes hunting fishing and trapping for all game in...
