Huntley has a manmade and natural side channel. I believe Huntley's manmade channel was recently modified and there is a graduate student assessing fish passage. They're not dealing with pallid sturgeon though, so the needs are much different at Huntley than Intake.
When done well, the bypass...
Let's move the discussion over here so this doesn't serve as a distraction from the other thread.
For simplicity, dams = weirs and weirs = dams. Functionally, they both limit passage. Some more than others.
Is the Yellowstone River technically dammed? Yes. There are many low-head diversion...
There's plenty of low-head diversion dams on the Yellowstone. Nothing that regulates flow though. Some of the tributaries are regulated, which has had significant effects, but the Yellowstone remains relatively free flowing. Intake diversion dam, which bigsky2 is referring to, already impacts...
Thanks for the invitation to get involved Randy. Jim is a hoot and that day on the river will certainly go down as one of my most memorable floats. That day played a big role in me deciding to apply for, and probably land, my current job. I'll forever be grateful to Jim and everything he's done...
We had a family friend that was a big card collector when he was a kid. He had forgotten about them for decades. He mentioned them to my dad when I was into cards as a kid. He brought over a shoebox full of random cards. I’ll never forget sitting in the living room floor sorting through them...

If y’all think it’s tough to shoot a mature deer in eastern Montana or bull on public in the mountains, try finding a decent Christmas tree within 45 minutes of Bozeman. Unlimited tags at work again...
Congrats on the buck. Sounds like you had a good time up there.
For what it’s worth, I had a similar experience with my deer tag this year. I couldn’t have asked for a more enjoyable hunt. I was seeing tons of nice bucks but nothing huge. Decided early on I was going to stick to one area and...
I had a chance to watch the buck I shot this year for almost an hour before pulling the trigger. He looked like a big, old deer but I didn’t realize his noggin was THAT much bigger than some of the other bucks I’ve shot. Gives me a whole new appreciation for what a mature buck looks like. His...
