I'm sooooo blessed. Beautiful wife let us build a remote cabin when we could. And can still go out by myself. Don't use a GPS, have one and a game camera to. But don't know how to use them. Still get lost a lot. A moment of panic n move on.
Believe it forces me to rely on me . Really makes...
There are several versions of hunter safety courses n being outdoors. That have been designed for the classroom. Be great if more of these were offered. Maybe folks can introduce them to schools in their areas. We homeschooled so really good opportunity
-25 humidity 70% 4' of snow. Over 10' at the cabin. Beautiful wife n me had to stay at our cabin for an extra week last year because it got minus 25 n lower. My limits. I've had to go check traps in this. And really dark, can't keep visor clear. Almost got lost. Better have good equipment n be...
I picked up an 1894 Win 32 special. It certainly has the patina to be a one man gun. Kinda seems like you can almost feel his hands on it. Speaks to you. And he spent a lot of time with this rifle.
The deep snow is really stressing out the moose. And the wolves are probably having a fiest. They just come upon a moose trail n follow it. Will wear itself out quickly and be an easy meal. Be nice to go sit on a couple kills.
They get kinda dangerous around the house. And step right over...
Just got another foot. Minus 6 this weekend. Probably over 7' at the cabin. At least the cold will crystal the snow. Sugar snow. But will freeze on top so you can get around.
Cutting trail to the cabin is going to be a workout.
Schools have been closed all week couple power outages...
Lot of folks would like a job in the same area that they live in. So they can stay living there if they want. Expensive! Royalty and corporate taxes paid to state. Medical services. Education opportunities
Locals being able to form their own government and not depend on the state, self...
Our daughter met a fellow who has 2 boys. 15-4 years old. Now I have 2 new outdoors partners.
I'm excited to help these boys learn more about the outdoors and all the great stuff we can to do. Hunting n fishing for sure. I used to go trapping(hanging out in the bush)alone so kinda excited...
Yeah I know that feeling. Kinda hurts in different ways. I guess I worked n played tooooo hard. Neck wore out n broke. Missed moose season, first time in 40 years. My body didn't care for the new body parts in my neck and nothing fused. So missed season again. I will have more surgery next...
Yeppers. Even if I only get a short time. Just taking a moment to work our chessy feels good. And watching a dog on the hunt is just cool. Working back n forth trying to catch a smell while visually hunting. Then they find the scent n game over. Well game over when she places her moose antler...
Hey, there is a big message in that story. Reminds me of me. I know that I can get nonchalant and get careless. As soon as I started reading this I was reminded of the time that I was standing on the very top on a 6' step ladder that was sitting on muskeg. Using a chainsaw. By my at our remote...
Nice congratulations ! Moose are just need to hunt. I use a recycled RnR plastic pint bottle for my moose magnet. The thin plastic on these make for good brush beaters too. Funnel for pouring water to imitate a cow irinating. Taste nice too.
That's a nice looking bull.
Dogs. Not just for hunting. The affection that they give to the family. Our kids were always with their dogs. And I felt that they were safe. And knowing that nothing will get near our home at night or when we are gone. Our dogs give to us in many ways.
When I just want to watch a prime...
Yeah, bears can cause issues locals just deal with. And they taste good to. Went to throw the coffee grounds out of my cup. Looked around the corner for moose. Ducked back in the cabin n asks beautiful wife if she wants to harvest a bear. She hasn't had coffee yet. Blueberry black bear, 3" of...
Night before last we had a moose come through the yard. Single smaller narrower hoof mark in the dirt. Indicating a yearling possible legal spike fork bull. 1-1/2 year old. I grabbed up our grandson and put my binoculars on him , made him feel pretty big for a little man. He'll be 6 next week...
Real nice n welcome to ak. Hey the weather is what it is. The mountain tundra looks fantastic this time of year and everything is moving, eating.
Yeppers walking across the wetter muskkeg can take a toll on the body. Should be plenty of berries or maybe too late. Amazing how fast caribou...
