    Walk in cooler hang time

I've had a walk in for 20+ years. In my opinion, anything more than a week is too long as you get a bunch of wasted dried crust on the outside that has to be trimmed off and discarded. A couple days is plenty long enough. You just need it too cool thoroughly and stiffen up for butchering. I...

    Age and Elevation

I'm in similar situation living at about 700'. I always drive out west on hunts and take my time. You are gradually going uphill the entire trip west, spend first night somewhere mid way at a couple thousand feet, then next night pretty near your destination at 5-6000' or greater, then one...

    Barrel stove for shop

My brother had one in his garage and it heated the place wonderfully. Very inexpensive way to set up a woodstove. Throw a little sand in the bottom for added protection of the thin barrel sidewall material.

    Deer burgers?

I have added pork to give it a little fat and it turned out good, but prefer plain ground venison. Have also tried beef fat and thought that really sucked, never again.

    Deer burgers?

My recipe: Start with straight ground venison, no additives. Thaw out a package or two and put in a bowl. Bust a couple raw eggs in the meat Crush up a sleeve or more of saltine or Ritz crackers and dump in Dry minced onion Whatever spices you like, I typically just add black pepper and garlic...

One gun/caliber to rule them all?

I could get by fine with only a 30-06, .308 or .300 mag. Wouldn't bother me at all taking on a big moose, elk, brown bear, or anything smaller with any of these.

    Old school gear

My dad had one of those too. Could probably still use it effectively for ice fishing if you have the transducer.

What is your single top hunting season goal this year? I expect updates damn it.

150" Or better whitetail with archery gear. Fill the freezer with another 4-5 whitetails.

    Any builders here? Foundation advice

Silly not to protect it, why take a chance? I'd cover the area inside walls over footings with insulated blankets. Just buy a few, they're not that expensive and you don't need many. Straw makes one heck of a mess to clean up.

    Illinois advice?

I've fished quite a few places in southern IL that have public land adjacent the water. Seems like boating into some of these harder to access places could get you into some good hunting.

    Illinois advice?

Toughest thing about any midwest hunting is getting good property to hunt. Then it usually takes a couple years to figure out the best stand locations, wind directions, etc. I own a couple farms and lease some ground in southern IL and have hunted the area for over 25 years. There is pretty...

    Raccoons

Coons are horrible around here. Killed 14 in the yard this spring and that's just a good start.

    electric bikes

My Radrover says I can get 30-35 miles out of it too, but it starts getting pretty tired and about out of juice at 20. Those advertised results are for optimum weight passenger, fully charged battery, and good travel conditions.
