Hey guys..my son and I are going on a WY wilderness elk horseback hunt in October of this year. Struggling to figure out if we should buy pac boots like the Kenetrek northern or the Mtn extreme 1000’s. Obviously the weather can be in the single digits to 50 degrees.. we will be doing some hiking...
Has anyone ever hunted a muzzleloader deer tag in Colorado? The early season would be awesome in the high country..! Have always wanted to do an early season high country rifle or bow hunt..but I know the early rifle tags take quite a few points in CO.
I’m definitely more interested in the eastern units..In particular the units that border north and South Dakota. Not sure if I should focus on areas that have more trees/vegetation or other types of terrain. Looks to be plenty of blm land there. I’m still interested in Colorado as well..so many...
When you say opening weekend? Do you mean the first rifle hunt or second rifle hunt the first few days of each of those hunts?? Or the first rifle hunt of the year??
Also want to add that we have 3 points for WY, but I’m aware you can draw some units as a 2nd choice in special draw..I’ve never hunted WY public land for deer and wanted to save our points for an early rifle deer hunt in WY in the west part of the state..hopefully we can catch up to get enough...
Hey guys! Looking to take my son on a deer hunt in either (eastern) Montana or Colorado in November this fall. We have points to draw the Montana tag but zero points for Colorado. So our choices are a Colorado unit that we can draw with zero points or Montana?? What’s your guys’ thoughts on...
Hey guys! Been building points for 4 years and I’m ready to do a thorofare wilderness elk hunt..haven’t decided if we should archery or rifle. Anyone have any recommendations? You can pm if you wish. Thanks!
This is a last minute kind of deal so I’m unsure at the moment..I’d rather camp close to where we hunt, I need to research how far lodging is away from where I’d like to hunt. I hate driving an hour one way to hunt every morning
Does anyone know if we can still get on an alternate list for a general elk license or big game combo? I know there was a deadline back in the summer..but was curious if we could still get an elk license for rifle season..
Hey guys..I've found a last minute opportunity on a NM Unit 2 elk landowner tag for muzzleloader or rifle...I've heard decent things about this unit. My only concern is I'm late into getting info/scouting the unit. The tag cost twice as much as a normal tag which isn't as bad as other landowner...
Since my son and I are new to archery elk hunting, I hated to burn 4 pref points on WY in 2021 since we are still learning how to elk hunt..but I wanted us to have a good experience while learning the ropes..diamond creek must be decent if they sell out first day of tags being available..I’ll...
Hey guys I’m planning an archery elk hunt for 2021. I’ve got the points to get a general tag in WY, however I’m considering trying to purchase an Idaho diamond creek tag in December. I’ve been through these areas but never hunted, extremely beautiful and looks like good elk country. Does anyone...
Thank you sir! I see there’s walk ins in unit 24 with available tags as well.. from your experience are both of those units about the same as one better than the other? I quickly read the job completion reports and it said that antelope or over objective in unit 24 but I’ve also heard there are...
The area I’m looking at allows antelope hunting..it’s just not clear to me if I can use a type 7 or type 2 tag which is deemed as private land only tags...it’s a gray area to me since the type 1 tags can hunt this walk in area..
I can’t seem to figure out through WY’s website if you can hunt walk in areas that are privately owned with 23-7 & 23-2 tags..which are both “private land only tags”
