Something much like this is what needs to happen. You have to give up Thanksgiving entitlement week. Once you acknowledge that, just move it to October statewide even the LE areas. It is the responsible thing to do and so simple. Anything else is just a Band-Aid here and maybe another Band-Aid...
I hunted with the same gun for several years starting when I was about 16. I shot mostly 210 partitions. I killed my first several elk with it. I eventually thought that I needed something that shot flatter, but that was before we had range finders.
I really like the tang safety Rugers. The one...
Some do and some don't. Some will move down to the lowest available habitat, which in some cases might be within half a mile of the road. At least that is how it is in the several units that I spend time in. Others will stay high where wind blows the snow off.
By the end of this week a lot of that snow will be gone. The high stuff will linger but there will be substantial dry places. I have been seeing goats at from 7500 to 8500 feet in other units fairly nearby this last week.
I have killed some stuff with my 700 .300 RUM but it doesn't qualify here because I only had a Leupold scope on it for 1 year and that won't happen again.
Here is a 166 HH recovered from an elk's ass after shooting through a 4 inch limb. I am not sure what the velocity was. He was already shot...
Yeah. I know places where I could see more game, but I would have to somehow get comfortable racing other hunters and shooting dinks. I have a nasty habit of hunting where I want to kill game instead of where I am more likely to kill game. Part of being a good hunter is adapting to changing...
That is a nice buck.
Sad story... I have been out 5 times in 4 different drainages for a total of 25 or so miles in country that I have hunted for many years and killed a batch of game in. I have seen 1 mule deer doe and spooked 1 something in the dark 1 morning before it snowed. I have not yet...
One of the better things about gaiters to me is they allow you to wade through water to cross a creek over the top of your boots without getting your feet wet. Another thing is I wear wool pants and they keep the unhemmed bottoms from balling up with snow and ice. I have been wearing Kenetreks...

Man, I wish I saw as many elk as I did hunters. Heck, I'd be happy with 25%. Scratch that spot off the list. I even climbed a couple thousand feet to try to get away. That's pretty good for this 57 year old 😀
Still good fun. I'm enjoying the...
Alaska G bears are not Montana G Bears. They live in town between houses on the AK peninsula. Try that in the lower 48. There are a half dozen houses within a couple of hundred yards of these two that are enjoying some afternoon delight.
Yeah, sometimes I underestimate MTFWP.
Their goal must be to kill every deer and elk off the public land and let the landowners manage the game. They are making unprecedented progress.
Montana has been managing mule deer for cwd all my life. What more could you do to reduce mature buck numbers than give everyone a tag clear through the rut? Maybe 2 tags I guess.
