I think I drew the hardest tag to draw in Oregon! 644A3 with one point. :) Sounds like some dandy bucks live there in the Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge!
Time to get the muzzleloader back out....
I mainly archery hunt elk and always swore I would never use a mechanical broadhead but finally decided to try Grim Reapers last year. First off it was great to be able to have 100% consistent arrow flight. I've always struggled a little with that with fixed blade heads no matter how much tuning...
My son and his girlfriend were coming home from Montana the other day and were first responders to a bad vehicle accident by the hot springs around MP 70, I think it was near the Jerry Johnson Hot Springs. A semi hauling a piece of farm equipment lost control and hit a car driven by a young...
I turned my Winchester Model 94 into a Scout Rifle when my eyes got to the point where open sights would not be an ethical choice for me to hunt with it. I absolutely love hunting with it! I've killed 4 large Black Bear boars, a wolf and numerous Whitetail and Blacktail. If I ever rifle hunt...
In places where cougar removal had occurred buck numbers and age class immediately improved. It’s one of the only factors that can be realistically improved. It would be great to have all the mule deer winter range back and to have less humans on the landscape but those things can’t be changed...
Oregon has the ability to manage cougars but lacks the desire due to political climate. Granted we will probably never see sport hunting with hounds again but the ODFW has authority to use agents to manage cougars and has done so in several areas with proven results. It just needs to be more of...
Seems like he was just feeding through the swampy bottom I was hunting. Went into the thick stuff at the head end and I didn’t try to follow. No use spooking him as he should be hanging around pretty tight for a couple more weeks until the rut starts up.
First time really hunting spring bears with snow on the ground but the boars are definitely active. Followed this guys tracks in a different spot tonight.
Lots of chanterelles and a good amount of cauliflower mushrooms. Hedgehogs are rare, the spot we got these produced last year too but it’s the only spot I’ve found them.
I walked through snow patches 100 yards before seeing the bear. Didn’t expect to see anything, just had to get out! He wasn’t quite big enough for this early but fun to get so close! The old 30-30 was itching to go!
A bit of a drive but both the Trask and Nestucca have good bank access for Springers! Ours down here are a bit later and generally bigger. Early May it really starts picking up.
