I would have to agree with most everyone here. Hunting grouse is the harbinger of fall and hunting season in my humble opinion. They are the first species of the fall (since the opening day runs the same as doves, I say head for the hills and avoid the crowds). They ring in the season! There...
That time of year, aside from the really old bulls in sanctuary, you'll likely find different groups of elk together or at least fairly close by. As far as staying away from boundaries and going in deeper, that all depends, I'm assuming there are roads along all the boundaries or at least its...
Hello there, I'm planning a trip to Maui next year and would love some insight into the goat hunting on the island. I tried sending you a PM but it would not allow, maybe you have to allow for them. I wish I had some info on NM in return.
Biggest thing is simply spending some time (a lot) sending all different bullets and loads down range. It can take a while to find a combination that your particular rifle will like. Might be worthwhile mounting the scope to find a good load, but make sure you get plenty of time using a peep...
I’ll throw another vote in for Klymit. I have had one of those through a deployment and many nights out. For the price point I do not believe you can do better. Hold up well (just be conscious of the ground before you throw it down), patch easy, blow up fast, packable and I’ve not found them to...
There are some elk in there, but like others have said not a lot. It is thick in many places. Also I’ve seen a lot of folks back in “deep and high”. It’s a busy unit just with hikers and people recreating. I don’t mean to dissuade you but a lot of people talk about how they are willing to go...
We haven’t had any luck on the morel front yet, but the family has been finding Oysters like crazy! Between frying, drying, and pizzas they are living well off the land! Not much better than a batch of Buffalo fried mushrooms!!
I’ve had success on the left over tags, but I go muzzleloader. Which in my experience leads to way less people, also way less shots, but hey that just means more stalks! Buffs35 is right though, access is the trickiest part of the tag usually. This guy was a left over tag this past year.
Hmm, I have a European vacation coming up curtesy of Uncle Sam I might just have to make a visit to the UK in the next year. Do you guys have any good contact for those cull hunts?
So we hit up a local pond today and drowned some worms. Nothing too crazy, just enough for dinner. Caught a bonus little large mouth also, threw him back to grow. Dreaming of warm sunny days and late nights.
