I've had Brits for 40 years but if I was to get a new dog I'd look hard at one of the versatile breeds. All my Brits absolutely hated ducks. Would be nice to have one dog for all.
When I was hunting chukar a lot I had settled on the Estate high velocity hunting load. Sportsmans Warehouse gave a discount for buying by the case. It specs out the same as your Federal load but I liked #6 shot.

That made me cringe when I scrolled down to that. When it starts to throb straighten out a paper clip, get it red hot and go right through the nail. I've also used a small drill bit.
