I probably missed it somewhere, but how would this work for non residents? Would they draw a tag first and then choose whether they would hunt October mule deer or November whitetail?
Agreed. As much as I use and love onX, especially when hunting new areas, there are 1-2 sections of state land that I spent a lot of time scouting in the summer to learn tricky access points that saw very little pressure. These chunks now can be figured out access wise by someone 1000 miles away...
Ben makes a great point. I’ve never had a problem with individuals shooting immature deer and I’d guess the majority here don’t either.
That being said, I think there are ways(like the proposals from the mule deer group in regards to season structure and licensing) to allow ample opportunity...
As someone who loves bowhunting there every year, the archery permits far too high for that open country with the excellent archery equipment we have today in my opinion.
I still enjoy bowhunting the breaks every year, but I don’t consider it, at least the northern units as trophy units. I first hunted it in 2007. I would see at least one legit 350 bull and countless 300-330 those first few years in a week of hunting. That same area now, I will see a couple rag...
Had a great morning with my daughter on her first deer hunt this morning. She made a perfect double lung shot at 100 yards on a buck she liked from scouting. It was so fun to see her excitement and share that moment with her.
As much fun as it is having the option to shoot whitetail or muley on a general tag, I think either species tags have to go away for most of the state.
