This is more of a question out of curiousity as someone who lives as far as you can in MT from region 1 and spends no time there. Are any big game species currently doing well there(muley and elk obviously not, but whitetail, moose, etc.)?
Totally on board with what you’re saying. Definitely a much larger issue with wounding with the primary muzzleloaders and archery. I’d like to see much of November shut down too. Just not sure how feasible it is though. But maybe we’re getting closer to that point. Or low number permits for...
I think some of the points mentioned here in regards to more primitive weapons the last half of, or all of November, are good ideas if we have to compromise and can’t get rid of most of the November season which I’m guessing would be incredibly hard to do.
I make a lot of pheasant strips. The whole family loves them. I make my own seasoning with flour and chicken seasonings, salt, pepper, garlic, etc to taste. Dip in an egg wash with milk then shake up in a zip loc with flour at least 2 hours before frying in coconut oil over med heat about 2-3...
I’m glad guys are bringing up the issues with whitetail as well. I’m guilty of focusing on mule deer concerns and sometimes forgetting whitetail which many of us also love to hunt. I’d like to see whitetail doe tags, when necessary to be issued, be issued by unit instead of region. For instance...
I also should’ve mentioned that splitting the tags between the two species doesn’t necessarily have to happen in every unit/region but really needs to be looked into in areas with the highest variations in take between the two species.
I should have specified more, but I’m referring more specifically to public land easy to access(BMA’s) in my experience in region 6, and from hearing about other’s experience in region 7. In eastern region 6, it’s very rare to see a non resident with a dead whitetail anymore. I think a large...
I think another way to reduce the impact on mule deer from non residents(something you could definitely do for residents as well) would be to eliminate the either species part of the tag, so make let’s just say 50% mule deer buck tags and 50% of the total be only whitetail buck tags. Obviously...
I don’t think he’s saying that at all. He, and I, and many residents on here also want to spread out resident pressure more as well. But when a group hat has 10% of the tags is killing 50ish% of the bucks in large areas, that’s clearly an issue that needs addressing. And I know you’ve shown a...
They could up res tags to only $30 and basically double their money on those tags while still being very affordable. Bring it on. They have to spread out the pressure though. BMA’s that used to be good for deer have gotten so bad from the pressure that I don’t even care if they’re renewed...
Non resident regional caps are an absolute necessity. Region 6 and 7 non res pressure has gotten to an out of control level. I’d personally not have a problem with resident regional caps as well, but ya gotta start somewhere. It’s great to see more people starting to notice the problems and...
I ran into a local lifelong Montanan today that has always been one of the last guys I would ever expect to want anything other than a 5 week general November rifle season. This guy doesn’t give the smallest sh** about killing big deer. He told me he thinks that the state needs to go to some...
I follow the meateater pastrami recipe exactly except I don’t steam it at at the end. That has made it worse for me. I go to an internal temp of 145. Very good stuff.
Didn’t know about the option for transferring to kids. Might have to hook my daughter up with a general elk tag once I have enough points since she’s 10 and already wants to shoot a bull elk. Lol. At what age can a kid get bonus points in WY?
