What do you wear for hearing protection while big game hunting?
I was born deaf in my left ear so before I leave the truck I stuff a good foam earplug in it, then before I shoot I transfer it to my right ear. My left ear is a nice placeholder :) When the government actually sends back the paperwork I’ll be shooting with a suppressor, too. -

Switching Dog Breeds
I’ve had 2 labs and they’ve been great family dogs and hunters. I have been giving thought to getting a puddlepointer. The Hangul for me is the fact that my labs would go into the thickest, nastiest thorns and cattails to flush pheasants. Not sure I wanna go in to some of that with a pointer.- MLaird

MT upland opener reports
I got out opening day and walked about 4 miles in the morning. I saw several sharptails that flushed way out in front of me and was finally able to harvest 2 about 100 yards from the truck on the way back. Suppressor recommendations
I ordered a Lane suppressor back in January. My gunsmith is a dealer so I got a few bucks off. The average wait time back then was about 5-6 months. I hoping to get it by October. -

Best copper projectile?
I used Barnes TTSX in all my rifles for several years, they’ve worked really well. Last year I transitioned my 7RM to shoot 131gr Hammers and harvested 4 animals with it. Drought for the west
There were 3-4 fires that popped up around here over the last couple of days. Had one 2 man crew get overrun when the wind changed. Thankfully they’re both alive but one did get flown to Salt Lake City with major burns...- MLaird

Cartridge for 18" barrel?
I'm looking at doing something similar, but with a 20" barrel. I was thinking a 6.5CM or 7mm-08. I talked with my gunsmith and he has a Savage 6.5-284 action that I could use so I'm thinking about that now as well. If I go that route I'll get a 7.5 twist barrel and shoot the 129 Absolute Hammer. -

A buddy just sold me a basically brand new Metcalf for $300.
If it fits you then I would say its a win. I've only had my Metcalf for a year but I love it. I used it last year to pack out an antelope, whitetail doe and part of a moose. It is super comfortable. I got a Kifaru Gun Bearer to carry my rifle and its a nice setup.- MLaird
