I really like the thumbhole Boyds gunstocks (Spike Camp, Featherweight and Varmint). Have them on 2 of my rifles have another for an Axis but don't have an Axis at the moment (traded it in for a Ruger). My next Boyds purchase will probably be a Featherweight Thumbhole for a Winchester XPR...
Seems to me ELD-X bullets will perform pretty much like any non-bonded tipped bullet. Lead will often separate from the jacket in any non-bonded bullet, nature of the beast/physics. Comparing ELD-X to a bonded bullet may not be an apples to apples comparison.
I did try searching for any...
Between online and in store I have found plenty of 30-06 ammo myself. If anything is hit or miss it seems 7mm-08 is harder to find than 30-06 for me at least.
I love shooting the 7mm-08 but yeah ammo has been short while other chamberings are more readily available. If you want to stick to the 308 Win/30-06 tree I would go 308 if you don't reload. Ammo has been very available for me for 308 Win. If you reload 7mm-08 and 260 Rem are always options...
Not on the list but in the same thought as @VikingsGuy go cutting/bleeding edge on the long action with a 7mm PRC with a threaded 18" to 20" barrel and put a suppressor on it.
Scheels needs to open a store in Vegas. I would be there weekly.
BPS pushed their policies on Cabelas after the buyout. Mostly bad for the consumers but I imagine BPS buying them saved a few Cabelas employees jobs, less corporate office of course. Personally I prefer Sportsman's when it...
A lot of unknowns, does the $800 include what you would spend on a scope? Do you reload?
For my recommendation I am going to assume you don't reload and the $800 total includes a scope.
Ruger American Predator (has a threaded barrel and easy to identify by the green stock). This rifle will...
If you need to fire a dozen shots at a deer, you fail at deer hunting. If you are target shooting on public land, could be a different situation but a lot of public land in areas where I hunt forbids target shooting, only shooting at game, where my first sentence applies.
As far as EVs go, if the infrastructure was in place, I would definitely consider the battery swapping style of vehicle (Nio) versus a plug it in and wait an hour or really longer. Personally again the infrastructure needs to be put in place, I think hydrogen is a good alternative. I will...
Posted this thread, went on vacation and then been busy as all heck. Good input. I still am on the fence, my rifles that I set up for out west I have gone 200. My 308 I took to NY last fall I set to 100. I do believe the scope will have some bearing on how you set it. Thanks for the votes...
So been seeing a lot of discussion on this and figured I'd get a feel for what people do. I am assuming typical centerfire western hunting caliber/chambered rifles. I have been doing 200 but seeing a lot of good arguments to go 100.
Thoughts, comments, anyone want a mint?
Late to the party, but finally stopped drooling over the fact you have a Remy 760 30-06. I concur with the people that are saying keep the Weaver on it.
Interesting thread. Short term based on what I see for available ammo and what you listed and in order of my preference, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7-08 and then lastly .243. Not listed, the .308. If you reload anything you are comfortable with when you shoot.
Personally the trigger (AccuTrigger) for me is a decent trigger. The action can be a pain especially in regard to the extraction/ejection functionality. Luckily a few after market kits to deal with that.
Aside from winning a safe, the advice already given is sound. Don't discount safes sold by Lowes and Home Depot, you can sometimes get pretty good bang for the buck and in some cases free delivery. Just research models sold by whoever. I have 2 safes and need a third, bought one from Lowes...
Not much to add to the discussion but yes a pump shotgun is a great versatile option. I own both Mossberg 500s and Remington 870s. Both are reliable. The Benelli offerings from what is said are great as well though I have no experience with them. Definitely go 12 gauge and get at least one...
Upstate NY I have killed a few whitetail on the run during deer drives or otherwise spooked deer that weren't spooked by me but happen to run past me. Used shotguns with slugs on all that and never a longer shot than say 40 yards. I don't see myself ever shooting at an animal that is running...
