August ptarmigan eating lingonberries and blueberries are fine eating. March ptarmigan that have been chewing on willow buds all winter long, not so much. I like to start pups on ptarmigan as they are easy to see and mark and just the right size.
Ticks are not a problem up here in Alaska.
Mosquitoes and in some area black flies (locally called whitesox).
For mosquitoes, I like the Thermacell base camp while duck hunting to keep mosquitoes to a minimum.
One for me, one for the labrador retriever.
In Alaska, most caribou herds have or are declining in population.
Sheep populations in many areas have declined recently due to heavy snow and icing events.
King salmon populations have declined in many areas while red (sockeye) salmon have increased, especially in Bristol Bay.

I am not a city person, thus I don't like Bozeman, Billings, Missoula, or Kallispell.
I like small towns like Ronan, Polson, Plains, Glendive, Sydney, Dillon, etc.
Yes in 2000 I lived in Lolo and used to take Mullan to get around the traffic jam on Reserve.
Now even Mullan is pretty jammed at times.
I prefer the small towns to the north (Ronan, Polson, Bigfork, Ferndale, Creston, Plains, Thompson Falls, etc.)
I've lived in small towns most my life.
Missoula, Bozeman, Billings, Kallispell traffic is too much for my taste.
Driving down Reserve in Missoula at 5pm on a weekday or on a Saturday for example.
Driving from the interstate to the airport at Billings at 5pm as another example.
I traded 1000 rifle primers for 1000 Winchester 209 primers.
The person I traded with was using the Winchester 209 primers with a muzzleloader.
So for I've gone thru 500 Winchester 209 primers retriever training with a starter pistol and no problems.
Me too! I've been using mine for over a decade up here in Alaska with zero problems.
Since I am solo most days, it is with me hiking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, hunting.
Things I like about it:
1) Low monthly subscription fee of $12
2) Long battery life. I use mine every night to send a...
Praise should not be overused as a cheerleading "Good Boy,Good Boy,Good Boy,Good Boy,"
The reason is because the dog is not likely to associate praise with any instant in time in terms of dog behavior,
rather cheerleading praise becomes background music.
Or cheerleading praise could be timed...
Long before Starlink, we were sitting around the campfire in moose camp.
There were otters chattering behind camp and a great gray owl was calling.
All of a sudden silence.
We looked down across the river and about a mile away a super bright object appeared
at the treeline went up a few seconds...
