I turned a rifle mule deer tag in last year and it showed up in the pool the next day

You can make a frame out of PVC and shoot through old wrapping paper held on by battery clips... or you could bounce over to RMS and spend less time and money in having a pro do it.
Probably a little easier with an M4 when you can mortar the charging handle, open the upper and drop the BCG to get access to the chamber. I'd guess your paint-can opener trick would work just as well on a SAW or a 240? What was causing the issue-- overheated chamber, poor quality ammunition...
Wait, did I know you had a Brit? They are fantastic dogs. Our 13.5 year old has become quite accustomed to weekends in mountain towns since we moved to CO:
Mmm.... how does it shoot? What do you feel is your effective range? Really been wanting a more traditional muzzleloader... toting a super modern inline touched off by magnum large rifle primers in the same haunts as Kit Carson doesn't feel quite right to me.
Not a dumb question-- because it is easier to carry a few feet of duct tape wrapped around a lighter than a big roll, which would take up a lot of space. You could probably do the same with paracord, if you wanted.
Dryer lint soaked in petroleum jelly, stuffed into a pill bottle for me. Keep a Bic lighter wrapped in duct tape in each of my kits plus a tube of waterproof matches.

Defer to the real expert tagged above, but I would think that the aluminum bedding block would remove the need for epoxy bedding. Of course, only way to find out is to shoot the darn thing, as several others have suggested.
