That's the only bullets my hunting partner shoots in his win 70 300 wsm. I have seen him drop about 6 animals in the last two years with them. All drt. He hasn't shot an elk with one yet but the deer and antelope have all be complete passthrough. Longest shot was 350 yards.
I have never bought it. I am usually out of cell range when it hits the fan. I always carry a tire patch kit and 12 volt air compressor. And not a cheap air compressor. But the best you can afford. I've only had one instance i couldn't fix a tire ( massive side wall damage from a tree branch). I...
I am a big fan of terminal ascents. Killed three animals last year with them. That being said, I also like accubonds. They tend to be pretty devastating on close shots though in high power calibers. I have killed a ton of elk with Berger vlds but felt like I wasted too much meat. I never lost an...
I am also just starting to get into reloading. I would look hard into Facebook marketplace or craiglist. I ended up picking up 2 Lee presses with miscellaneous dies, bullets, primers powder, and bullets for $300. While it didn't have everything I needed i found enough to get started and then...
I hunt in the general area around dillon. It used to be we would see 3 or 4 other hunters a year during archery. This year I went to 5 different spots looking for a place to park much less hunt. This was the scenario for all of archery season. We had lots of places prescouted during the summer...
I switched over from Hsm 168 bergers to 155 terminal ascents because of the wasted meat on the bergers. While I never lost an animal to the bergers, it seemed like I was cutting out way too much blood shot meat. I shot a mule deer doe at 40 yards, mule deer buck at 80 yards and an antelope buck...
We put in 53 miles in 3 day last week. Seen probably 250 deer. All on public land. Been hunting for awhile out there so tend to know some honey holes. After looking over about 40 bucks, I only saw one I would shoot. A nice 170" ish buck. However he never gave me a shot. A majority of the bucks...
Really like the look of the mud river organizer. Anybody know if it would fit on the back seat of a ram with the backseat flipped up and the fold out floor down?
Been in the area a few times during early rifle season. I have seen them bulging well into November. Just something to keep in mind while you are packing your gear up. Everyone we ran into up there was very helpful with information regarding animals. Something you don't see to often anymore.
I have had a few farms not allow us to deer hunt their farms in eastern montana. All were very friendly though when talking to them. A few we had seen turkeys on their land and all of them have allowed us to Turkey hunt even if they didn't allow deer hunting. It never hurts to ask.
But to go from .75 to 8 moa at 100 is unreal. I bought 5 boxes and thought I was good for awhile. Next step is to clean the barrel good and shot over a chronograph to try and see that's going on.
I have been shooting this round for years. Picked up some more ammo recently and my groups went from .75 moa to barely keeping it one paper. Shots everywhere with no rhyme or reason. Tried some 175 power shoks because I thought my scope was bad, and they shot .75 moa. I noticed they have their...
We drink coffee on the road. We dont bother bringing a jetboil. If it's really cold we will start a fire to boil water. Remember that a water bladder can be useless when below freezing. I carry a large hydroflask when temps get below 20 degrees.
Hunted Friod area on Saturday. There are quite a few people pheasant hunting still. it looks like there were a few camps set up in town. All the areas we went to already had boot tracks through them. Kicked up lots of hens but very few roosters. If you found the heavy cover they were holding...
Hunted it a few times. There are deer and elk in there but tough finding them. Terrain is pretty unforgiving. The road that splits the badlands cayuse trail is traveled pretty hard during hunting season. That being said, it is a fun and unique hunting area.
Like the beer selection. Always pack around a dead guy for when I shot something. It sits in my pack a long times some years but eventually gets drank.
The gravellys get hit pretty hard all season long. Lots of roads all over the place. I have always found elk but a lot of the times they don't talk. Look for water and places with no roads.
Spent last weekend up in the higher country. I can't believe all the archery hunters opening werkend. The antelope were very skitish by sunday. However lots of antelope still around and everybody had at least a few stalks in them. Black butte can be snowed in already by that time of year. If...
Opening weekend is nuts down there. Some of the higher elevation is good if it doesnt snow and push them down to the valley. I usually end up filling my tag midweek when there isn't so much pressure.
