Two of my cringe-worthy favorites to incorporate into you discussions, "what toothpaste are you RUNNING?" and "That new camo pattern I have on my socks is a GAME CHANGER".
Another favorite is how we "HUNTED HARD" or some variation when somewhere in Texas the guy got to the bait station at 3:45...
One of my favorite parts of elk hunting is the planning and logistics. Setting up the tent, discussing trailers or trucks or food or boots. It all builds up!
You might want to add early morning partner-yoga to your daily agenda when up there. Then again, maybe you don't.
No, not ready yet. But getting there. My bow is tuned but its shooter needs a little more practice. Need more logistics discussions with the group. Fall fever has not set in yet, but it is close. Very, very close.
Oh yeah! I just upped my subscription to this thread. Paid the annual fee to get the unlimited questions level. I am in!
Right off the bat a question. Aren't you worried that he is gonna take a chunk of your finger when he goes for that meat?
Great thread.....so far. Expectations have been set. I thought about applying for the position, but the question asking how many times I have been struck by lightening kind of spooked me.
I love calling and have had great luck with it. I love the information shared by Elknut Paul Medel. I swear some of the bulls I have shot have read his Playbook. He focuses on what calls to make in a specific situation.
Rut Daniels is a fictional hunter who can be somewhat entertaining if you are in the right mood. Kind of a parody of hunting, sort of. Watch one they are short. You will either chuckle or think it is dumb. It is entertainment, not serious. My kids and I chuckle about his adventures...
Learn to shoot left handed? It isnt that hard as I have fooled around with it. You might not be shooting long distances, but 250 and in is plenty doable with a couple of months of practice. Plus, it would make a great story....."And I shot it left-handed!"
I like to spend money on stuff so that my kids enjoy the outdoors. Instead of dropping that $150++ at the fair or amusement park, I would rather get them a quality pair of hunting pants or boots or coat or whatever. That way, when they are in the outdoors, they are comfortable. no easier way...
I will have to read that article as I haven't gotten to it yet. I would love to see that article printed in some mainstream publication. THAT would be a big win. To your point, we haven't gotten the message out well to nonhunters and articles like this would go a long way if we could get it in...
I would like to know how common it is to run out of money in retirement. We all hear about the people who wake up dead some morning and never get to experience retirement, but how about the opposite? Does anyone know about someone who had to go back to work because the nest egg was too small?
You can get a 3" SBE to make it a wee bit lighter. Or an M2 which is very similar in design. I have the SBE, my son has an M2. He had a Winchester SX3 and in his opinion, there is no comparison between them. The SX3 has given him all kinds of problems. My .02
Sorry in advance as this is not what you are asking about, but I went from a gas grill to a pellet grill about 2 years ago. I would pay full price for a pellet grill instead of a free gas grill if mine was stolen. I will never go back to gas. Just something to think about.
One of the things I think about and has been touched on by others to some degree is the different ways you can retire. I see 4 obvious ones:
1. Work your current job full time until THAT day and enjoy your retirement party. Ride off into the sunset. Live off your retirement savings. Lets...
