    Salton Sea to Arctic Ocean

Awesome trip! How does the lab do with all the prairie grouse? I have a pretty close ranging lab that is great with pheasants and ruffed grouse, and want to go get some of those other prairie birds! Feels like most prairie grouse people use pointers. Do you flush a lot out of range? Do you...

how much do you spend on a round of trap/skeet?

I learned that trap prices are reasonable and soda and snacks are expensive in your neck of the woods…. That or you enjoy very fine snacks!

Shooting with iron sights… good resources?

Yeah… imprecise language on my part. I want to know where it’s hitting.

Shooting with iron sights… good resources?

I used slugs/open sites on deer last over a decade ago. I have no recollection of how I sighted it in (like what sort of hold I used). I doubt I shot a deer more than 75 yards with this set up. I still have the ammo I hunted with so I’ll be curious to see what my first groups look like….

Shooting with iron sights… good resources?

Shot BB guns and 22 with open sights a ton as a kid and switched to scopes for most things as an adult. Gonna get back into it a bit next trip at range because I may have a decent hunt opportunity this fall in which I’d likely use my 870 rifled barrel with iron sites. Looking for any reading or...

    Deer burgers?

Nasty Nate Dog, the big black lab, is where the screenname comes from. He likes my burgers too.

    Deer burgers?

My 2 cents for burgers: Adding beef fat makes the burger taste a bit more like beef. Since I eat almost all game meat, I actually prefer the burger on my grill have some beef fat in it. Go to a butcher to get some beef fat is not expensive. I do it about 15-20% beef fat for my burgers. The...

    Wife not into "game" meat

Get it and have your wife page through it and point out what looks good to her... thats a pretty sure fire way to be starting in the right arena for a winner meal. Then my other 2 cents. Not everyone likes everything. Some people love olives, some hate them. And people also have their own...

    Wife not into "game" meat

Hank Shaw's cookbooks and website upped my cooking skills big time. If you up your cooking game for venison meals, that might help go the distance to win someone over (put a little extra effort, getting fresh ingredients etc.). https://honest-food.net/ Some super easy recipes that are...

    upland strap vest recommendations?

That final rise looks awesome, but, would quickly become my most expensive piece of clothing. I have a onX elite (multi state thing) and they throw in a hat and extra gear pouch if you buy it through them. But I'm going to look around a bit more or just sweat through the early season in my old...

    upland strap vest recommendations?

I use a traditional upland vest I like most of the fall, but it can be warm early season, so I'm looking for one of those strap vests where there isn't much upper body material besides the shoulder straps. My dog drinks a ton, so besides being orange and holding dead birds and some ammo, good...

    Salton Sea to Arctic Ocean

Thanks for asking and sharing... Turns out a 6' plastic table and 3 of those tubs makes a perfect, storage efficient and convenient loft in my truck. And here I was just starting to ponder whether I should make a wooden frame, and I put this together in no time flat with stuff already laying in...

    Transferable skills... whitetail to elk

It'll be a few years (2-4) until I will chase elk with a bow again. My first trip, I drew back twice but did not let an arrow fly. Learned a lot. I have good archery whitetail hunting opportunities locally (midwest), and can get a couple tags. I'm thinking I can use the next couple years to...

What is your single top hunting season goal this year? I expect updates damn it.

Nothing out west this year, I live in the midwest. My dog is in his prime. My goal is to ensure my deer hunting/meat gathering does not infringe on my upland hunting. We eat mostly game meat at home, so I want to get 2 or more deer in the freezer w/ archery and then birds birds birds. I can deer...

    Plate ‘em up

. This is South African bobotie from Buck Buck Moose. I'd never heard of it. Not like anything I've made before but pretty easy and really good- curry, raisins, etc. . I'll make again.

Competition grows to auction off coveted hunting tags

In no way should you consider this a disagreement with your statement. I know next to nothing about WSF and sheep conservation generally, and I suspect you're spot on. My question is, with wildlife everywhere getting crunched by a lot of different means, is keeping sheep numbers stable (not...

    Fly Rods... school me up

Another thing to consider is if any of them have decent warranty. St Croix has a good warranty (or at least did at one point, you'll have to look). I bought a really nice rod musky rod in high school from them with a lifetime warranty. Busted it last year (I'm 20 years out of HS) and got a...
