    Grouse! Let’s See Them

I don’t know about the Northern Rockies guys, but it has been an incredible grouse hatch in CO and southern WY this year. We were seeing broods of like 8 this summer and bird numbers are just crazy in a few of my normal areas.

    Grouse! Let’s See Them

Usually after September I need reminding that grouse hunting is both more fun and more efficient with a dog and shotgun than flinging arrows while focused on elk (and often blowing up $20+ per) 30 minute limit in CO this morning and two more from across the border in WY after:

    Grouse! Let’s See Them

First, a miss (estimated the left bird on the log at 20, he was more like 23 - good penetration though :) ) but ended up with a limit that day. Really helpful when the elk shut up and a phenomenal addition to Ramen dinner!

    Why?

This is my biggest concern with mine. Even when you do remember to lock if, those factory locks are pretty easily picked/broken. I have one - it’s super convenient (I am lazy and I got it cheap from a guide acquaintance). For a lot of months I’m generally fishing or otherwise near fishing and I...

    Denver!

this is 1000% true. a little closer to downtown, El Taco de Mexico on 7th and Santa Fe is top notch. I bet tickets to tonight’s game are dirt cheap with the 180 in the weather, too.

    Denver!

No lead is safe at Coors. Plus you got to see the longest HR in MLB this season from Cron! Great night at the park. https://www.woodypaige.com/woody-paige-its-time-for-the-monfort-family-to-sell-the-colorado-rockies/woodypaige/

If you were going on a non-hunting/fishing backcountry trip, where would you go?

I didn’t know it continued down around the cape and across the Indian ocean to Australia, but I second this (spellchecker typos aside :) ) The Julian Alps are a mostly ignored beautiful corner of the world. And those unpronouncable meat pies are perfect hiking fuel. Exactly, Marble trout and...

    Backyard Rabbit Trapping

I wish, got a couple in the front yard with a crappy old Walmart pellet gun but it doesn’t have enough oomph so the neighbor 3yo’s got a lesson in ‘the neighbor guy beating a bunny in the driveway with a plastic stock’. That got the pellet gun taken away by my better half. Switched to old crappy...

    Backyard Rabbit Trapping

I have become an unintentional bunny trapper. this is the scene my son discovered this morning going out to take some cuts before school: I assume the dog or a fox chased it in there in the middle of the night at some point but it wasn’t chewed up so maybe it just wasn’t very agile. it...

    Shaft straightness necessity?

Yeah, i took a break from archery equipment for like 15 years and everytime Ive gone in for a component, half dozen new arrows, or even just blow one up on a rock shooting grouse nowadays, the sticker shock pain is real. best description I got on straightness was last night at the local shop...

How to approach open fields for pheasant

Is that the only legal parking spot? Which direction is the wind typically coming from? Birds eye looks great and being bounded by paved roads likely keeps pressure down (a lot of folks are reticent to hunt next to pavement for dog safety and/or aesthetics), but if only one spot, most people...

Canada, Vancouver Airport, how long for customs?

not an exact experience, but we just crossed into BC last Saturday (By land). Be sure to download the ArriveCAN app and add traveler information. Then update your ‘Trip’ in the app within 72h (so, 1-3 days ahead) of arrival. It was pretty seamless...

    Another CO unit 76 question

Paging @Khunter - it is not nearly as easy as you would think to get that information from many USFS offices: Exhibit: https://www.hunttalk.com/threads/does-anybody-really-regulate-outfitters-on-usfs-lands.308127/ Start by calling the local USFS office (Monte Vista would be the RGNF office) -...
