Well I'm no Dairy Farmer, so I won't deny that there could be some delayed recall accuracy from the stress response of having that big honking cow elk in the cross-hairs that you just know is gonna go 200+ in meat yield.
Being a member of the Cow Elk 200 Club is a tough title to defend on the internet. I was hoping to save another member from making the same mistake I did. 🙄
If i wasn't already in bad standing with the AAT I'd tell the tale of my Muley Buck with 8 inch bases...
Be careful with this claim. I once mentioned the 200 lbs of meat I got from a big cow elk once and some members of the Advanced Analytics Team here took notice pretty quick and were very skeptical. I later measured that cow's skull and compared it with a 250-ish class 6 point bull elk skull...
I love hunting with my old 30-30. These photos are both within the last 5 years. I seem to hunt differently with it - for the better. I know I have to be closer so I act like it. It's more of an archer / muzzy hunter mindset I suppose. Much more so than when I take out the .270 and 300 yard...
This is the old scope that came with my 1950 Marlin 30-30. It looks to be of the same era but there are no identifying marks or writing on it for me to verify. It's a sweet shooting combo however, and I will never separate the two.
I would do the opposite. If I lived closer to the NW part of the State like I did in the past I would hunt there every year. Not that I'm complaining about the SW but having hunted each region for 5+ years my success rate was higher in the NW and I didn't have to work as hard.
I've always thought that it's much more effective to pick a unit and learn it well as opposed to chasing success rates and starting from scratch in new areas, especially OTC areas.
So you were packing on the miles and going deep without success and still running into lots of hunters? One thing...
Sounds promising and aiming for the head seems as important as ever in that scenario.
I just looked up the prices for Holland and Holland firearms and I've already been priced out of the T-Rex hunting market. It went to the elitists pretty quick.
So the 600 Nitro Express that Roland was going to use in the Lost World...was I the only one that thought he was going a bit light there?
I mean it's used for Elephants and such right? But still. Please don't roast me for this, I'm new to the "What would kill extinct Super-Predators" scene...
Looks like you got some good use out of the stove/tent setup. We got some unexpected lightning during my friend's hunt second season as well. We had to lay low on a very exposed steep hillside as it cracked all around us for about an hour. Wasn't very fun at the time.
This is almost certainly systematic error on the part of the mapping system vs a landowner building where they weren't supposed to. OnX, I believe, uses County GIS/Tax maps which are often times not accurate themselves, and likely vary in accuracy from County to County. Looking at my own...
