Can you check areas a bit higher in elevation wherever you are? You mention checking places a mile from the road, can you go in another mile farther? It could make a big difference.
If someone at onX could make a query search for all waypoints containing the word(s) kill, site, elk, down, shot, etc., they might get a decent idea of where animals are being killed in given areas. I agree with whoever said that to really be useful there would need to be a breach of other...
One of my favorite and most successful elk hunting locations requires me to camp about 100 yards from where I hunt it. It's a small canyon separated by a small but steep ridge so I literally wake up, get ready in the tent, and make a short steep climb every morning and I'm hunting the other side...
I did this last weekend, but instead of kfc it was homemade tamales from a lady selling them out the trunk of her car in front of the gas station. Impulse buy on the way to the Trailhead. Also money when consumed at camp later.
About 5 years ago I shot a bull with my .270 that had his head down eating. When I shot he just lifted his head up and stood there. I shot again and about 3 seconds after the second shot he ran behind a big Juniper tree and disappeared. I remember thinking that I couldn't believe I missed, as...

Sorry about the doom and gloom report in my first post. Yes it is possible, and even somewhat easy in certain scenarios. Especially if you're just looking for the experience of combining a float with a hunt which is what COrookie seems to be after.
What I've experienced though is that most...
There are places in Colorado that this could theoretically be done but so many logistical hurdles make it difficult or not worth it in general in my opinion. By the time fall rolls around most rivers in the state are about at their lowest flows before winter and many become unboatable to rafts...
One piece of advice I have is to research the migration triggers for Mule Deer in that area. Some deer herds in Colorado migrate almost like clockwork regardless of weather, possibly due to the length of daylight or some other internal instinct that causes those deer to suddenly head for winter...
I have always been ok in a 3 season tent, even into the late rifle seasons here in Colorado. There have been occasions when I have to wake up several times throughout the night and smack the snow off of the sides to keep it from getting too heavy, but it's not a very regular occurrence.
Once while hunting with 2 friends of mine, we encountered 2 other hunters headed into an area as we were heading out. We were only a few hundred yards from the parking lot and there was about 15 minutes left of legal shooting light as these guys were walking in so we stopped and chatted for a...
I've got some horror stories about trash and human waste from working in various parks departments over the years. One of my personal missions at one area was to catch people leaving a popular dispersed camping area and ditching their trash inside the pit toilet bathrooms on their way out. There...
I have a small portable solar charger called an x-dragon that I bought about 6 years ago. It is about the size of a smart phone and has both USB and micro USB ports. I use it to charge my phone as well as a nightcore flashlight that I bring. I fully charge it before backpacking trips and I...
Before you start thinking today was bad or even just ok, remember that you weren't smoking a cigarette inside of a dumpster down in Espanola New Mexico.
https://www.calculatestuff.com/miscellaneous/random-number-generator
This is the first year I have participated in any hunting raffle. I supposedly had a 1 in 300 chance of winning. After not winning I played with this random number generator for awhile and remembered why I don't bet money...
No need to toss the keys lol...
Next time it happens just put it in park and turn on the hazards. Then pop the hood and step out of the truck, walk towards the horizon and start a new life.
You are complaining though. By hanging up the phone when the wildlife agency calls you for info about your hunts you're complaining in a very obvious way, just one that's not helpful to anyone.
I also dislike Colorado's harvest reporting methods but I still take the surveys when presented to...
