I was in a similar scenario last year except I already had the Tundra. Ended up with a F250 gasser and feel good about the call. It gets worse mileage than my Tundra did, which isn't much of a surprise. You pay your money and you take your chances.
I can buy that, which is more than I can say for 80% of scores I see claimed. Kudos.
If he's the one working for Dustin in Belgrade, or if that's a different kid, I've heard good things from the LE side...
I've only shot 147's in mine, but it's another data point. Also if you ever wanted to try a handful to see how they do I'm well stocked.
The load I hunted with was 56.3gr of R26 from a 24" barrel. Hornady brass. It went 3030 to start and 3060 after the barrel sped up. It didn't show classic...
Having had my sliver of exposure to academia on the inside, this rings true.
It seems like we're in the silken slippers stage of US/western history, but I keep crossing my fingers...
I've shot probably 50 lbs of Varget through Dashers, but clearly I think H4895 works great too. It was favored by some 1000 yd BR guys when the Dasher was a little more popular in that arena. I know multiple people having good success with H4350 too, but you'd want a drop tube to get enough in...
Yep, spotting impacts is the #1 reason, but finding targets in the scope quickly is a close second factor. I also think it leads to less eye strain and helps reduce some target panic, but those are tertiary for sure.
To JT's former points, there isn't anything clearly wrong with being prepped...
Good choice of matches if you want advice from me. I shot the January match there, ran the February match, and will be shooting this one. I don't have any knowledge of the specific course of fire, to keep it fair. However, based on the path Jared and I set with the first two matches, I'd...
Happy to help how I can. Is it a one day match or two day match? Where is it at?
Totally understand the bullet situation. If you're in a position to possibly podium, I'd use the Bergers. For your first match these days that's very unlikely and I'd save them if you have the ELD-M option...
Good to hear. It's a good program overall, and there's WAY worse places to live while getting your degree.
First thing that comes to mind is I read about or talk to many hunters are QUITE over-confident in their long range shooting skills. I tell people all the time that while competition...
Ha! It does sound crazy on paper, I'll admit that.
I should mention, one real downside of focusing on shooting rifles with essentially zero recoil is it can build some bad habits. You can get away with so much. There's absolutely a parallel skill set to shooting rifles with recoil well...
A couple from the field:
"Ultralight" setup as a 6.5 PRC just after firing.
"Ultralight" setup as a 6 Dasher this year.
I started with local matches, at least from a competition standpoint. I had a pretty good base of precision rifle knowledge already. These days there's tons of...
So I mentioned before a bit about a "system". I don't even really think in terms of having "a rifle" anymore, I just have piles of parts that can be assembled to what I need that month, as everything is modular and works together.
I have 3 Bighorn TL3-SA actions, and that's IT. I sold all my...
Not quite. Like many things, I've tested it enough to be comfortable with it myself, but not in a rigorous fashion like I would if I was trying to PROVE something. Doing that is on my list, but I haven't got to it yet.
I've shot 2 seperate 10 shot strings over the chrono with thrown H4895...
I actually have two different "levels" on there. There is the bubble level on the scope mounted above the parallax knob, and there is the Anti-Cant indicator in the chassis just below the tang. They confusingly work opposite each other, it took me a bit to get used to it.
I use them both...
